To all the McGovern Family, my sincerest and heartfelt condolences. I can’t express in words just how much we will all miss Mark. He was an absolute gentleman, a brilliant father and a true friend, someone who could make you laugh out loud, yet in an instant offer sound advice. I was only chatting to him the previous Saturday and he was slagging me that in the middle of the lock-down here in Los Angeles I was heading out to buy Barry’s tea bags from the English shop in Santa Monica. We had such a great laugh that day.

We all have such fantastic memories of Mark and his passing will without doubt leave a wound in our hearts. But we can also all take comfort that although Mark is no longer with us, he lives on in his sons, Adam and Seamus, two exceptional young men who are just starting their own journey in life. They are a testimony to a fantastic father. RIP Mark!
— Shane McCabe
Very very saddened to hear the news today of Mark’s passing.

As a young arrival to Singapore in 1991 I met Mark at the Bucks rugby club - he was a strapping no. 8 (though versatile enough to also play wing) and though, not the captain, was the voice at the end of the huddle chat saying “c’mon lads, we’ve got this! Pull together and we can do this!” His physical size made him someone you would instantly respect but it was his good nature, his quick quip and his thoughtfulness of others that made him someone you admired.

Though I haven’t seen you for 27 years Mark, you’re sorely missed already.
— Gerard Hargraves

Mark was a great friend and helped me get settled in Singapore. We had lots of great times on and off the rugby field 1990 - 1998. I have great memories, as do many others who played with or were associated with the Bucks RFC in the late 1980s and 1990s. My thoughts, and those of other Bucks, are with the Family.
