Dear Mark:
I coming home from school and telling you, I’d just discovered this thrash metal band, Megadeth… crying about how the other kids thought I was weird for listening to it.
So you, with your strange talent at making people smile no matter how sorrowful, you told me of how you, in the 80s when you were in highschool, worshiped this band Megadeth: and you told me how you climbed up on your desk in the middle of class and screamed “DAVE MUSTAINE IS GOD” (Mustaine is the founder and vocalist of the band)
And you were sent straight to the headmaster for it- it was things like this exactly that are prime examples of how you inspired people to see the laughter in every solemn moment- you touched the souls of everyone you met.
You were not perfect but your heart was pure- even when you were in the most physical suffering I’ve ever seen a person withhold, you still had a smile on your face and never wanted others to worry about you.
Your life was short but the spectacular energy you left behind will be carried in the hearts of those who were close and whom you inspired, forever. Your soul energy remains here with us at Milford House.

I am so grateful for it all even the tough stuff we had to get through together. I’m deeply sorry what happened to Mark. I have a nice memory of him when he told me that he will going to do the university. He was wearing a black thin scarf and when he entered into the room he said ‘ I will go the the uni’ and he flip the scarf around his neck on a very funny way and sprang away . I loved him because he was full of life and humour. He was special. ❤️

To Deej and all of Mark's family. We were all so shocked to hear the news about Mark. After everything that he and Deej got through together, and the success they have made of the projects they worked on, it is a big blow. On the other hand, we are thankful that they had those years of loving and supporting each other and creating amazing spaces, communities and homes. What an incredible man Mark was - intelligent, poetic, kind, loyal, patient, loving, brave and so so funny. The world is worse without him. Sending all our love to Deej and everyone close who have to carry on without him.

Dear Deej and Mark's family,
Deej and I have known each other for three quarters of our lives but I only met Mark about five years ago when I went to visit them in London. What a delight! Mark was such a charismatic, hilarious, idiosyncratic raconteur. You don't often remember the partner of an old friend so vividly, but Mark was special and unique. It was lovely to see the love between him and Deej. A truly memorable and deeply loved man.
I hope this offers you all just a brief moment of comfort.
Hugs, Izzy
— Izzy Hockley
So obviously such a good man, and so obviously so good with Deej.
The wonderful Live Art Ireland, beyond good - necessary and wonderful.
Magic unfolding and cruelly curtailed. But the positivity stretches far and wide,
Mark, I never met you but I followed your Underground explorations through Deej,
when she was here. Stunning images unimaginable courage. You gave so much to so many.
So much to live up to - so important - keep going Deej,
And if it happens - please come visit again.
What you chaps have already done is immense.
More power to your elbows Deej,
Stay well, XXX.

Witnessing Mark's funeral and getting to know more of Mark's life and how it threaded excitingly with yours Deej , I felt the even sharper edges of loss. I've known Mark through you, Deej, and through projects where I experienced his extraordinary and wicked humour, passion, energy, directness , wonderment and playfulness. And his laugh . He will be so missed. Sending hugs , Pen

Eileen, Martin, Gregory, Sarah and Kate, the shock sets in of a morning for your lovely brother and son. He was brave in a way that was different growing up, the athlete, the scholar, the artist, the actor . I missed many years in between but I remember at the funeral of our uncle Padraig how skilled and kind he was in helping to bring the priest around to our way of thinking. He did that in having the rarest of qualities, he held the space for folk to be heard.

To Deej Aishling and Bea, I am so happy to meet you and happier again to see the ripeness of the world you create and have created.
The circle completed.
