Martin was a respected, popular and good humoured colleague at the Bar, with an old-world courtliness and charm. When my mother started at the Bar he generously arranged for her take up a tutoring position in UCD Commerce faculty where was Lecture in Business Law (later he did the same for me). All his students loved him, including my sister, who thought he looked like Steve McQueen. Very sorry to learn of his passing. My deepest sympathies to all the family.

Today we said a sad farewell to our friend & colleague. Martin and Tom were friends for 54 years and as families over the last 39 years the O’Grady’s and the Gleeson’s shared many adventures, many holidays, many laughs and nearly bought several pubs in the process!
Martin was always professional, his advices were always well thought out and his ability to connect with people always put our clients at ease.
Sincere condolences to the Gleeson family our thoughts and prayers are with you as you say farewell to Martin who had a great wit and was a brilliant raconteur. R.I.P. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis

Sincere condolences to John and Elaine,Andrew and all your family. As you know Martin and I had a kinship, having been Kevin O’Higgins’s only two devils.
We met on my first day in the Library when the late great Seamas Sorahan SC( with whom Kevin had deviled) took us all to lunch with Barra O’Briain,Mary Robinson, John Gormley ,
Mel Christle. Martin also did me the great favour, as he did with others) to become a business law tutor in UCD for the Dept. of Commerce,a helpful leg up for the income of a young barrister for a few years. He was a very well prepared, thoughtful lawyer who gave meticulous attention to his clients case and had a very varied common law practice. Appreciated by his loyal solicitors and very well regarded by his colleagues..
Many fond memories of him indeed.
— Diarmaid Mc Guinness SC

My darling Martin, what I wouldn't give for one more convivial evening at your lovely house, sharing a bottle of wine and our flowing conversation. You never said a boring sentence to me in your life - you were simply incapable of it. You were the best (male) friend, travelling companion, and eventually (only) fiancé I've ever had.

I simply can't believe I'll never again get to sit in a café or bar or restaurant with you talking the night away., or strolling along the seafront in Alghero. It's a crime how soon you left us but as you always used to say, tomorrow is promised to none of us.

Everyone who met you loved you, including my parents and extended family.

My condolences to your own.
Hope you're already ordering a lovely rich ripasso and your favourite spaghetti alla vongole, wherever you are. We'll all see you soon again, if there's any justice.

All my love,
Katherine xx
