My sincere condolences to Joan and family on the sad passing of Martin. I worked with Martin in the CBS for over 20 years so I got to know him so well. I can honestly say that Martin was a true workmate and colleague. He was a real gentleman and a pleasure to work with. I also knew Martin on a social level of course and we often had a few pints together. And at some stage Martin would give us a rendition of the Banks or maybe the Pucha Buile. He was one of lifes characters and he will be sadly missed. Rest in peace Martin.
— Kevin Walsh

Dear Joan, Roisín, Brian, Owen, Darra and Aidan and families, my sympathy on the sad death of your dear husband, dad and granddad. I have so many fantastic and precious childhood memories of our great neighbors and friends, the Cork accent and the Gaelige never far from Martins lips. After you moved to the country and I moved away it was always a pleasure to meet Joan and Martin, rarely ever apart and it was like as though we spoke only days before, warm welcome, all chat, great interest in catching up and always a cupla focal as gaeilge. Slán Martin. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Dear Joan, Roisín, Brian, Owen, Darra and Aidan, my deepest condolences to you all and to your extended families on the loss of your beloved Martin.

I have such fond memories of growing up alongside the Hudners on Saint Conlon’s Road - we kids all sailed in and out of each others’ homes seamlessly - and I still have happy memories of digging up potatoes in the back garden with Martin. He and Joan remained great friends to and supporters of our parents long after both families moved a bit further out of the town, and I will always remember and be grateful for their kindness to Tom and Kate in their later years. RIP Martin. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

My deepest sympathies to Joan on the loss of your dear husband, Martin, and to Róisín, Brian, Owen, Dara and Aidan on the death of your dear father.
I was privileged to have Martin as my Ard Leibhéal Leaving Cert Gaeilge teacher from 1975 to 1977
He was an excellent teacher with a fine balance between not being over strict and too serious, and yet being able to cover the long course work well while maintaining good discipline and drawing respect and inspiring us to produce our best in response.
As I remember also your beloved late Neasa, I pray eternal joy and peace on his precious soul and the Lord's deep consolation to you all at this difficult time

Martin passing is not only a very sad day for his family it is a sad day for Nenagh. However somewhere in the sadness there will be a great pride and consolation in his legacy.

He was an educator and role model to the thousands of students he helped to inspire.
His classes were memorable for his enthusiasm and brilliant, chalk dust flying everywhere and by the end the blackboard covered in words and phrases of his beloved Gaelige. He was dramatic and energetic and encouraged us to think critically. His Irish debating team was another of his loves and those of us he mentored in the class of 1985 went on to gain senior positions in law, journalism, business, architecture, medicine dentistry, the arts and academia. He nurtured generations of students, he treated everyone with with respect and prepared us for the adult world.

Martin and Joan were best friends of my parents and I remember the night of my father’s wake, we walked in the darkness to our gate where the Hudners had parked. Martin looked up to the night sky and said ‘they say another star appears when we loose a loved one’.
Rest in Peace Murty, may your star shine brightly forever.
