Matt was a big part of my life. I met him on my christening day almost 63 years ago. Joe Besignano was my godfather but Matt was like a second godfather to me, never forgetting Christmas or my birthday as I was growing up. I loved listening to Joe and Matt’s stories about their travels - I would be doubled over in laughter along with my mom, dad, my godmother Charlotte and her husband Richie. They were such good times. It makes my heart feel good knowing that they’re all together again. RIP Matt and thank you for everything - I’ll never forget you.
— Joyce Fatovich

Nothing gave me more pleasure than having the good fortune of meeting Martin during a brief hospital admission he had in late 2020. He was such a wonderful character with how he talked about life and his ability to see good and kindness in everyone. Although our contact was brief he instilled that life is for living and to treat each day as a gift.
May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace now in the eternal company of his loving partner.

Dear Matt was a wonderful part of my life ever since my first meeting him and his good friend, Joseph Besignano when I was seven years old, I am now seventy three. I lived in Brooklyn, NY and remember Matt and Joe in my parent's home, good fun loving friends who brought laughter and wonderful conversation to our family. I used to take the Brooklyn-Staten Island ferry and walk many miles to Matt's home to spend the day with him. I last saw him with my Mother, who passed on Mother's Day almost three years ago, my wife and Sister, visiting him before moving back to Ireland. I will miss him but know that he is happy now, reunited with Joe and family who passed before him. I will keep him in my prayers and in my thoughts with fond memories of the joy he brought to so many. God Bless Him.

To all you of his family who were so kind to Martin since he moved back to Ballygaddy and who now mourn his loss. I had the honour of hearing him recount of his early days in Tuam, his involvement in the Tuam Theatre Guild and his part in the Post Office advertising campaign many years ago. He reminded me so much of his mother, Mai o' Brien, a very dynamic and engaging person. He also reflected the magic that his father Ed, with the aviary at the back of the house, brought to all of us who grew up as neighbours. Martin was a true Ballygaddy Road and Tuam man. May he rest in peace
