Sending my deepest sympathies to Mary's family on her passing. The news was such a shock; I'd only seen her a few weeks previously when we welcomed new students to UCD, and she was - as she always was - chatty, welcoming, warm, and all done with a smile on her face. She touched so many students' lives for the better; we were lucky to have her. I also spent many happy hours with Mary in UCD Purl Jam. During our knitting sessions, she told us tales of her singing and her travels as she worked away, usually on a new jumper for a family member! Her deep love for her family shone through so clearly. I know you will miss her all so much. Sending my compassion at this time. Mo chomhbhrón oraibh. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam uasal.
— Niamh Nestor, UCD Student Adviser
It’s hard to find words to express my sadness at Mary’s passing. I consider it one of the great privileges of my life to have known her. The memory of the many years we worked together will remain with me always. Mary’s death leaves a great void in my life which will never be filled. By her ever-faithful concern, kindness and good humour she helped me through my daily work. No matter what troubles Mary had herself, she always had time to help others and gave so much of her time and of herself to making life’s journey easier for everyone else. I offer my most sincere condolences to Michael, Francis and Colm, to Joe and Peggy and to all Mary’s family and I pray that the Lord will reward her for her wonderful life which was such an example of Christianity in action.
— Eamonn FitzPatrick, UCD
