Deepest sympathy to all the O' Carroll family. Mary was such a lady and a privilege to know and work alongside. She cared so much for others and always looked out for the most vulnerable. Sincere condolences to all of Mary’s family and friends. She was such a kind, thoughtful and generous person who lived her life to care for others. We heard many stories about her growing up in Wexford from our Mother Mona Carr. She always spoke so fondly of her as did our Aunt Delia. She was an amazing woman who gave so much of herself to others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace Mary.

‘'A faithful friend is a sure shelter, whoever finds one has found a treasure’’ – Sirach 6:14-15.
I was fortunate to have found that friend in Mary whom I grew up with. Mary was abundantly sincere, loyal, a cherished friend and confidante to the end. We both set out to train as nurses in Dublin on the 5th of October some years ago now. Mary qualified in paediatrics at Temple Street, in general at the Richmond and in midwifery at the Rotunda. In the late 70s, Mary volunteered for a number of years in Adikpo, Benue State, Nigeria where she worked in general and midwifery. On her return to Kerry, Mary worked in Saint Catherine’s, and continued to volunteer and contribute to her community.
Our close friendship continued throughout. We spent many enjoyable summer holidays with Mary in Tralee and we so looked forward to her many return trips to Dublin. In Dublin, Mary loved retracing her steps, walking along the canal into town, and of course, doing the shops. Her generosity knew no bounds when it came to helping others she met along the way and her purse was always open to those less fortunate.
I will miss our trips to Tralee, our excursions out, our long walks on Banna beach and our invigorating conversations, as well as updates on the Royal family. I will remember Mary as someone who left a person, a place and a situation better than it was before.
I was blessed to have known you, Mary. May the flights of angels take you to your eternal reward.
Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.
— Delia
