To Caroline & Matt’s family in Ireland: deepest sympathy to you, In 1989 a new wave of immigrants from Ireland landed in Atlanta. I was one of them, knew nobody but was warmly welcomed by Matt & Caroline who introduced me to others, looked out for me & got me a job.Matt loved the Irish language & we spoke in Irish, swapped poems & songs in Irish & English. He was an ambassador for all that is good for the Irish abroad. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a anam uasal. Leaba i measc na laoich go raibh aige.

It was with great sadness that I read of the passing of Matt and I send my sincere condolences to Caroline and to the extended Naughton family.

May He Rest in Peace

I first met Matt over 60 years ago at Summerhill College Sligo and we renewed our acquaintance 30 years later when I re-located to Atlanta Georgia.

On graduating from Summerhill in 1959 Matt emigrated to the USA.

With the support and encouragement of his sisters he enrolled in Fordham University, New York from where graduated with a Business Studies degree.

Later he moved to Atlanta Georgia and earned a Law degree at the John Marshall Law School in Atlanta

After graduation he established his Law Office in the Atlanta suburb of Clarkston from where he worked until his retirement.

During his time in Clarkston he was appointed a Judge to the Clarkston City Court.

Matt and his wife Caroline became the leaders of the Hibernian Benevolent Society of Atlanta where Matt served as its President for 3 terms and together they were the longest serving members of the Society.

Apart from his Law Practice and his Volunteering work with the Hibernian Society, Matt also established a Bar and Restaurant in Buckhead---The main entertainment and socializing Centre of Atlanta.

There was always a very warm welcome in Matt and Caroline's home in Tucker and later when they relocated
to Dunwoody in the northern suburb of Atlanta.

Despite living in the US for over 60 years Matt was always very proud of his Irish heritage he maintained a very close relationship with his family in Roscommon and he and Caroline visited there regularly.

He also kept in close contact with many of his fellow students from Summerhill - both in Ireland and throughout the world.

Rest in Peace Matt..
