I was so very sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Murphy. I was lucky enough to be one of his students in SMC. He was such a wonderful teacher and had the ability to bring out the best in everyone. He went above and beyond to help me through the leaving cert- I will never forget his kindness and encouragement during this time. I have such fond memories of him telling us Christmas stories or showing off his stamp collection! And he always had a joke at hand! Such a wonderful gentleman- my sincere condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

I was very sad to hear of Mr. Murphy's passing. He was an amazing teacher. I used to live going to his classes. He always started class with a joke or a funny story and really got everyone engaged. He had such a talent for getting, even the wildest student, back on side in a gentle way using his humour. I'm a teacher myself now and in awe of how he used to do this so effortlessly. Pure talent and such a gentle man. Condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

Mossie was very much part of our childhood in the 80's and we were always excited to see his old blue Renault pull up outside. His visits usually meant cracking up laughing at his farcical songs or tricks, and at Christmas time he was the household supplier of the much appreciated selection boxes.
Mossie helped me enormously with secondary school Maths and I'm sure I tried his patience more than once..
He will never be forgotten.

Mary and Phelim, I'm so very sorry for your loss. RIP Mossie

Dear Mary and Phelim,

Deepest sympathies to you both on the passing of your beloved Mossie. He was clearly so well-regarded by all who knew him for his great intelligence but also his care, kindness, and sense of fun. He was deeply loved by his sisters and brother, as well as his nieces and nephews, for whom he was a gentle but vibrant presence in our lives; his twinkling good humour, the witty songs, jokes, brainteasers and puzzles; his generosity in the help he gave many of us tackling Maths for our various exams... I count ourselves very lucky that Mallow was frequently the first stop on your annual summer visit to Cork. We were so fortunate to have had him in our lives and we remember him with deep affection. Rest in peace, Uncle Mossie.

To Mary and Pheilim, my sincere condolences on the passing of Mossie.

I have known Mossie for as long as I can remember. I have nothing but happy memories of him. As a 5 or 6 year old, I recall going to a few Cork matches in Croke Park with him and my Dad, often not understanding why the two of them were getting either very excited (or annoyed!) about whatever was going on on the pitch! He would call almost weekly to the house and bring packets of fruit gums, and as a 9 or 10 year old in the 1980's, this was often the highlight of the week. During my teenage years, he gave countless hours of help to get me through Maths, and in particular Leaving Cert Physics. I have fond memories of him supporting my brother and me at underage cycling races. But the funniest memory of all would be his party pieces -- in particular singing "I'm my own Grandpa", which would have everyone in stiches.

So long my friend, rest in peace.
