My deepest sympathy to Anne and the extended Battle Family. Mick recruited me into Networks back in the days of VDUs. Sections would release staff to Mick in return for the installation of a few VDUs. The joke at the time was when new people arrived in Networks, the established ones there would ask " How many VDUs were you worth" ? Rest in Peace Mick. One of the good guys.
— Mick O Shea

I'm not sure Michael ever liked being called "Uncle Mickey" but his nephews told us, his grand nephews and nieces, that is what he was called and it stuck. He never once corrected us. There was great fun to Michael and a perpetual youth that meant we never called him "great uncle". Condolences Anne, he was a good one.

When Mick became a colleague, he would readily have admitted that he didn’t know one end of a computer from the other. By heaven, how this changed dramatically – much to the benefit of the Department. I could write a book on our social interaction – an example being our many trips to the Listowel races. John B. Keane gave him the nickname “Omar” – due to him spotting a resemblance to Mr. Sharif. Last evening, my Anne decorated the crib made by Mick. Tonight, I intend to raid the dresser made my Mick – therein to find a tipple with which to toast our long friendship.
