Terribly sorry to hear of Mick's untimely passing. He was one of life's gentlemen with such immense knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for the railway and especially the railways in Waterford. It is awfully sad to think that I'll never chat to him again.

The last week has been tormoil, Michael, since you have passed. When I found out on the morning of your passing, my world had changed / shattered. I took you for granted too much...always there at the end of the telephone when I would ring, be it for a chat about Railway operations or life in general. A light has now extinguished forever and the emptiness being felt is immense. I am honored to have gone with you on your final journey and I am very grateful to have been allowed to do so. You have done so much for me, personally and professionally throughout all the years. You were there for me when I had been hospitalized and were the first one there with Maureen when I was discharged. We did a lot of pranks and wind others up, in a good way, too many to mention. My sincere condolences to Maureen and also to everyone of the Stack's and Collins' families. I will never forget you, Micheal. You were my rock, hero, friend and counsellor. The tears are still flowing. Sleep easy, Michael. Rest In Peace. X
— Ian Walsh, Irish Rail
Those who were lucky enough to know you, be it personally or professionally have been left with a large vacuum in their lives now, I can only hope you know how much you were loved by family (especially Maureen) & friends, & how much you were respected & admired by all.
Rest easy Cuz...
— Chris
My deepest sympathies to Maureen and all of Mick's extended family. The last conversation I had with Mick was the Friday that Mick went on holidays when Mick had just got out a pensions bulletin for us. We both agreed that Mick was the fifth Beatle and he was happy heading off on holidays. Thank you Mick for all of your help down through the years. You never left the Waterford District down and you would have been in your element this morning dealing with bus transfers after the station flooded and organizing everything. Rest in peace Mick. Emmett.
