My deepest sympathy to Neil & the extended McGarry family on the sad passing of Michael. He lived a long & happy life and was lucky to get such great attention & care for the last decade.
I met him in Loughglynn Church last year at a funeral. Once he got out of the pew with his zimmer frame, he moved at such speed up the aisle to the church door, I think he might have broken a World Record! He visited my mother 2 yrs ago to wish her a happy 90th birthday, & said “ you have only 15 yrs left to catch up with me” as he raised his glass of whiskey.
What a great character. RIP Michael. 🙏
— Kate Giblin

Neil, your care and affection towards Michael, allowed him to live his life to full and his loss must be greatest for you and your family. May you have similar care and affection shown towards you in the days ahead.

In the words of another late Roscommon hero, Dermot Earley, which reminds me of Michael's take on life:
"I have learned that attitude is more important than ability;
that the motives you have, are more important than brains;
the courage you have, is much more important than all the ingenuity you can gather
and that the most important thing is that your heart is in the right place."

Rest easy Michael.
— Colette Kearney, formerly of Castlerea

Neil, our deepest sympathy to you on the loss of your beloved uncle Michael. Your kindness & care allowed Michael to live his 107 years to the fullest & you included Michael in every social event which he thoroughly enjoyed. May Michael rest in heavenly peace.
— Catherine & Andrew Carr, Boyle
Michael was a lovely, decent, hard working man. I visited him from time to time in Cloonfinglas, less so in Boyle. He loved his pet dog and she ruled the roost in Cloonfinglas. He fed the birds there and had a well stocked, well kept vegetable garden. When his neighbour Joe Breslin died some of Joe's cats went to Michael and he fed them. He would not see them or anything else go hungry. He moved to Boyle in his late nineties and made a great go of it despite the huge change that was for him. This was helped by the great care and respect he got from his nephew Niall, who brought him on day trips everywhere. A long life, well lived. A kind, good man, may he rest in peace.
