Sincere condolences to Grainne and Michael’s family. It was with great sadness I learned of Micheal's passing. Such a larger than life personality who contributed so much to Irish chess over so many years.

Micheal's inimitable charm with such a playful sense of humor and clever witticisms live long in the memory. A true legend, the like of whom we see so rarely and were lucky to have known. He will surely be missed,

May he rest in peace

Dear Gráinne, I'm so sorry to hear of Mick's passing at this awful time. There was a time when a week didn't pass but I was in your home. I'd never forgotten the work we did together for the Irish Chess Union.
I remember we nearly lost him during the Thessaloniki Olympics when I declined to go as ICU President and pushed Mick to go. He nearly didn't make it back and there was still so much to do the get Chess here from being a total backwater.
His contribution was enormous. He enjoyed every minute of it with the Telecom event being his crowning glory, setting Irish Chess firmly onto the International stage. You'll remember the golf event in Portmarnock. I hope to ring within months when I get your mobile. Lots of Love, Robert ❤️0874143666
