I am so sad to hear the news about Michael. I worked alongside Michael at Bishop Vaughan School. He was an amazing mentor. Such a kind gentleman. With sympathy to Margaret, Aisling and the Foley family, sorry for your loss. Michael was the gentlest of souls whose kindness and humour we will never forget. He was fortunate enough to have been blessed with intellect and humility and to be surrounded by loving family and friends. Many years ago Liz instructed him on the fixing up of shelves for which, as a man devoted to books, he never ceased to give heartfelt thanks! We will keep our fond memories of Michael, quick to smile and always kind in thought and deed. RIP.

Michael and I were classmates at St Peter’s College in the Leaving Cert class of 1958. It was a great pleasure knowing him during the years we were there. He was a well-deserved choice to become Senior of the House in our final year. It was a pleasure to meet him again at lunch gatherings of some classmates in recent years. He retained his unique ability to come up with an apt quote from Shakespeare to amuse us on many an occasion. Sincerest sympathy to Margaret, Aisling and all of Michael’s family at this sad time. Sincere condolences to Margaret, Aisling, Rory and grandchildren on the loss of Michael. He was a highly intelligent and talented (yet humble) man who was extremely generous with his time and talents. He was particularly helpful and generous to me 20 years ago when I was preparing and drafting an academic proposal for submission for my own doctorate. His encouragement and enthusiasm was infectious, and no words of mine can express the contribution that he made to my ultimate success. I will be eternally grateful to Michael and Margaret for the manner in which they welcomed me into their lives and their home at that time. Unfortunately I am laid up at the moment and couldn't attend Michael's funeral, but was delighted to join it online and concur with everything Aisling, Fr. BILL, FR. Aodhan and Bishop Denis said.
