It still, even after more then a month, seems so hard to believe, that Mike Gillen is no longer among us. Of course, like so many people, I got the pleasure and the joy to get to know Mike in the almost legendary SHAMROCK ☘️ in Hamburg. Thank you Mike Gillen for those amazing, seemingly endless nights in Hamburgs first Irish ☘️ Pub ever and for your kindness, your welcoming character, the many hilarious laughs and just being the charismatic, unique character you were.

So sorry to hear the sad news of Michaels passing. He was a good friend of my dads back in the day and when I was born became my godfather but like all things life goes on and I never saw Michael but dad always had stories to tell about their escapades. I am daughter of Myles and Mairead Murphy, a cousin of the Murphy's, I met him once in Patricia's house and heard many great things about Michael, a real character by all account's, he will be missed. I would like to honor & pay tribute to Mick and his life - to his uniqueness, authenticity, generosity, creativity, passion, contradictions & jovial laugh. Our paths crossed for roughly 10 years, while working in the Shamrock from 1992 to 1995. It was there I first got to hear his unforgettable rendition of Raglan Road & Kilkelly Ireland; it was there I got to see his entertaining of and generosity to customers, employees, friends & our family. My sympathies & thoughts to anybody he touched and especially to Maria, Martin & Gabi

I first met Mick in 1996 when himself & Joan bought my family home . He was such a larger than life character with a love an old Irish songs and a wicked sense of humour. I have some great memories . Rest in Peace Mick . Condolences to his family .

It is with great sadness that I hear of the passing of the genial Mick ,a true character , great laughs , golf and Betfair chat , fond memories of the day we went to Skibbereen to buy a record player for his beloved collection . My sincere sympathy to Michael's wife and family as well as to his sister Pat Murphy and all the extended Gillen family on the unexpected death of Michael. We met many years ago while visiting Michael's sister, Pat in her home on Clonliffe Road, Dublin when we were all young. Michael had that air of adventure about him even then and he did indeed become a self-made person who travelled, and was successful in his business endeavors, eventually returning to Ireland to lovely Roscarberry. It seems Michael had a full and adventurous life and I hope that is some consolation for his grieving family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h'anam dílis.
