Myself, John Morling (Head of Academy) and our colleagues at Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club were deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Michael Hayes on Sunday 27th September. Michael was a lovely man and always incredibly helpful when we were in the process of signing young players from Ireland. He was very approachable and willing to offer any assistance he could. He was always most generous with his time and I have happy memories of Michael showing myself and my wife around the FAI Headquarters in Abbotstown when we visited Dublin a few years ago and nothing was too much trouble. We were looking forward to repaying Michael’s kindness by inviting him over to watch his beloved Chelsea play us at our Amex Stadium but sadly he never managed to get the opportunity to visit us. Michael was always a pleasure to spend time talking to and he had a fantastic knowledge of Irish football which was clearly evident during our many discussions. Michael was a true gent and we will always remember him fondly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to all his family, friends and work associates. God Bless You Michael and May You Rest In Peace.
