It was a pleasure to have know Mick and his passing has left the world a duller and less fun place. Meeting Mick was always enjoyable, even when only briefly. He had the gift of being well able to chat, tell you something interesting, as well as give you his full attention when you spoke, a true gent. He was a very important person in my son Donie's life and thick as thieves they brought immense joy to each other... great pals and I will always be grateful for the positive impact he has been in Donie's life.

He will sadly missed, as all people who bring love, fun and joy into the lives of others are. My heartfelt condolences to Barbara, Sinead, Sean, Niamh, all the grandchildren, family and friends.
— Daniel Murray

Barbara, Sinead, Niamh, Sean, and extended family, my sincere and heartfelt condolences on the death of Mick. Michael Gibbons has been an important influence in my life for the past forty years; from inspirational teacher to confident and friend. I was privileged to have Mick as my Irish teacher in Wicklow Vocational School 1980-1982, his teaching style and compassion for his students influenced me many years later in my own teaching career and later again in my academic career as teacher of future teachers. Mick introduced me to and arranged for my first visit to Inishbofin in 1983 a place we subsequently met each year since and became good frineds. For my many visits to your home in Killegar, to our many conversations on ‘Bofin, I say thank you and Farwell dear friend.
