Michael was a colleague and friend of my father, Leo D'Agostino. I have fond memories of his visits to our family home in Belfast and of dinners in Dublin with Michael and my father. His gentle, sharp wit and his erudition and curiosity were not only a pleasure to be around, but a wonderful influence on me as a young man. I was sorry to hear that he has passed away and pass on my condolences to Michael's friends and family.

I was saddened to learn of Michael's death. He had been an esteemed colleague and friend for
many years at St. Mary's University College, Belfast, from where we both retired on the same day. We did not lose contact after retirement, and I looked forward to meeting him on my visits to Dublin and he came to stay with Mary and me, here in West Cork, to coincide with the annual Bantry Chamber Music Festival more than once.
May he rest in peace.
