Michael T. Kane

As a friend from Cornel , I was close to him . He was part of a group of friends who hung around together and has kept up the friendship since the mid 60s. I had the greatest respect for him : his intelligence, knowledge, integrity .

Not only did I cherish his friendship, I also was grateful to Mariam who hosted my stay several times . The Kane family is a wonderful group and I was fortunate to meet much of the wider family group. I was always welcomed .

Thank you Michael , Marian and the 3 lovely daughters.
I shall cherish ALL my memories forever

It’s hard to think its 40 years since I joined Mike as a PhD student; unchartered territory for both of us, I remember. Apart from the biology he was an early adopter in technology and was the first person I heard mention the world wide web. He was a fiercely competitive squash player; ie I don’t remember winning, and he perfected the 8 minute mile and we did the 1984 Galway marathon together. My Galway certainly was life-changing and memorable; thanks for being part of it, Mike.

I was a medical student when Professor Kane started way back at the 1970s. He was an excellent teacher, I still remember his good humour and enthusiasm. I was sorry to hear that he has passed away but he obviously touched the lives of many in a positive way. My condolences to all his family

Marian, my sincere condolences on your loss. Mike was a deep and novel thinker and a complete delight. He was so generous in keeping those of us distant from Ireland in touch with his nuanced point of view. He will surely be missed.
