Without Monica, I would have been yet another statistic In Saddam Hussein's Iraq. She helped me obtain humanitarian leave to remain in Ireland and I became a proud citizen of this country in 1986. I owe her so much. Now I have a young man of a son, born in this country and hopefully, he will have offspring too. A generation has been allowed to live and flourish because of her. To Monica's family, know that these facts make her immortal no matter how great her loss is to Ireland. One of a kind and remarkable.
Condolences to the Barnes family. Only knew Monica through her involvement in politics. She was a true fighter for women's rights. Let's hope her great work will be appreciated for years to come. Rest in peace Monica. Can just imagine herself and Garrett discussing politics in heaven.

Monica was a great role model and encourager to me and many others back in the 1970s and 1980s . My sympathy to her family.
