Jean, Am so sorry to hear of Neville’s passing. I have many happy memories of summer day trips years ago , on your boat with you both ( And my Mum and Dad- Edward and Valerie Greene). The sun was always shining and the waters calm. As children we always had great fun - they were special days .

I am standing on the sea shore.
A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object
of beauty and I stand
and watch her until at last she
fades on the horizon.

Then someone at my side says
“There she has gone” –
gone where?
Gone from my sight – that is all.
She is just as large in the mast,
hull and spars as she was
when she left my side. The
diminished size and total loss
of sight is in me and not in her,
and just at that moment when
someone by my side says
“She’s gone” others on a distant
shore take up
the glad shout –
“There she comes!”

Rest In Peace Neville .
— Norma Kealy nee Greene

We both enjoyed sailing with Neville in Club races, Regattas, Round Ireland, Committee boats and more leisurely cruises on the Shannon - we always knew we were in the safe hands of an incredible seaman.
Fond memories in more recent years of our house dinner parties where Neville could always be relied upon to stop any conversation with a cryptic comment!

Neville was a wonderful man to know, to sail against, and to meet in the club afterwards. I must have sailed against him in Finns, Lasers, Ruffians and half ton Shamrocks.
May he Rest In Peace.
I do recall Neville entering a Laser Masters in Howth. I must have been a apprentice master aged 35- but Neville being 20 years older than me, they hadent established a category of Grand master yet. He won the Grand Master category because he was the only entry!

Jean, Susan, Leslie & Gordon and the extended Maguire Family so sad to hear of Neville's passing He was a true Corinthian in every way and an inspiration to every sailor who had the pleasure of being beaten by him on his amazing Demelza.HYC and the sailing fraternity have lost a true icon. May He rest in peace.

To Jean and family,
We were deeply saddened to learn of Neville’s death. He has been an inspiration to us throughout our sailing career in HYC. For many years, we watched Demelza’s transom disappear in the distance never once managing to get even close! He carried his many talents lightly and will never be forgotten by those who knew him. May his lovely, humorous soul rest in peace.
— Ken and Carmel Kavanagh, Sutton
Jean. Deepest sympathies to you and the family on your loss of Neville. He was a great mentor and competitor in my early Finn days. I remember a wonderful trip to La Baule in France for the Gold Cup when you and Neville towed my boat there and back and put me up in your tent. Simple days but the resourcefulness of Neville made him a go-to competitor for half the competitors as heavy weather and wild seas wreaked havoc on the fleet. And memories of Finn racing in Dublin Bay when Neville took extra ballast in the form of a large bucket of water on the side deck. And him perched beside it grinning his head off. A real sailor who will be deeply missed.
Richard and Sherril.
— Richard Burrows
