Shocked and saddened to hear of Niall's passing. His constant joy, great conversation, and passion for music enriched our friendship back in our youthful twenties. Dear Carol and family, my hearts go out to you at this difficult time. Niall touched so many lives, and will never be forgotton.

Today. Jan. 30th, 2013, I saw reference to Niall Harnett, R. I. P. I am in disbelief, as I recall the image of that fine man released from Cloverhill, and all the supporters around him. Niall, you can be happy knowing that you did your bit, to ensure that this fundamental national issue, should be the concern of all the citizens of ireland. Thank you for your great efforts. Rest In Peace.
— Mary Enright
Whether we met him or not, Niall gave us all something: an example of courage, justice, and concern for others and the land. RIP.

I was very saddened to hear of Niall's sudden passing. I hadn't seen Niall in years, but knew him from music in particular the uilleann pipes in which he had an interest.
Thinking of Carol and his family at this time, Niall was full of life and passionate in what he believed in. May he rest in peace.

I express my deepest sympathy to the family of Niall. Niall will be remembered by me as a stalwart opponent of injustice and lack of human rights, all too common in Irish Society. He will be sadly missed.
