I remember fondly his close friendship he and the real love of his life, the late Marie, had with my parents, Jack and Patsy, over many years since their younger days in Roscommon and the many laughter filled visits Ollie made to our home in Carrick and our major family occasions.
A fine character and a life lived to the full, in public and private!

Sincere sympathy to the McGunness family on Oliver's passing. I well remember my first meeting with Oliver in the 1960s when he took a few of us fellow students to St Michan's to educate us on an aspect of Dublin's history. I had the honour of appearing before him in court, and a pleasure it was. As a colleague on the bench for many years I had the benefit of his wisdom and erudition. I have very pleasant memories of "postmortems" in Dublin and elsewhere, where we valued his shrewd observations on all things relating to GAA and rugby as well as other extracurricular matters. Above all I enjoyed the banter.
I very much regret that I was unable for medical reasons to attend the obsequies. I was able to observe the beautiful funeral ceremony online. May he and his good wife rest in peace.

Sincere condolences to the McGuinness family on the sad passing of Oliver. I spent many years in his courts and from the press bench always admired his fairness, compassion and objectivity as a Judge.
