I was a member of DWCC from 1979 to 1983 - I remember Paddy as being a very kind soft spoken gentleman and a good "time trialist" cycling over many decades - if my memory serves me correct he owned a holiday home in Cahore co.Wexford and I remember a group of us DWCC members did a weekend training spin to his holiday home where we stayed on the saturday returning Sunday. Jim Shortall and Willie Marks kindly drove down to set all in place for us and followed behind as support on our return to Dublin. About 65 miles each way in old money as we say. It was Autumn or winter time but the weather was cool but dry. It was enjoyable indeed with nice meal in Cahore castle nearby - Paddy was not with us so it was appreciated all the more for him to open his house to us. Thank you. May you rest in peace Paddy - Gone but never forgotten -- Niall Kavanagh (Templeogue) now living in Kathmandu Nepal.

A real gentleman who will sadly be missed by all of his cycling colleagues.
May he rest in peace.

Took part in a long distance cycling event in 1995 with Paddy called Paris Brest Paris. He was great company, subsequently we would randomly cross paths on the roads of Wicklow and have a laugh recalling our French adventure. Fond memories. RIP Paddy.

Teresa and all the family (especially Helen)
It was with great sadness we heard of Pat's death. We enjoyed his company on the times we were together but mostly it was repairing an ancient, heavy transformer to enable my American equipment to work. It was stuck together with black tap - his work, not mine. He usually handed it back with his enigmatic quirkly grin. .

Hello, I knew Paddy through my grandfather Terry. I've only known Paddy in passing and quick hellos while staying at my grandparents house on holiday. Last time I saw Paddy was in September, he was kindly visitng and entertaining my grandfather while he was recovering from a serious health scare. From what I know of Paddy, which i fear is not much, is that he was a good man and a good friend to my grandfather. The news of his death rocked this family as everyone knew of his relationship with my grandfather. Paddy will be missed and I am grateful for his kinship to my family. The world was better with him in it and he will be missed.

I would like to first offer my condolences to Theresa and family on Paddy's passing. Paddy was my dearest friend and has been since 1953 as we cycled home from cycling races together from Ashtown. As we were keen cyclists and of equal ability, we shared years of training sessions and cycling trips together. One of our highlights of cycling trips was in 1976 when we completed the bicentennial tour across the USA in 6 weeks. We took trips to the Isle of Man with Ethna and Theresa, we also took many memorable trips to France, Germany. Italy and Spain with the VETS. great times were had on these trips.
As we had our families we shared great gatherings and family occasions along with the poker nights. I know Ethna and my children remember Paddy with great fondness. they too would like to pass their sympathies with you all.
New Years eve was always a great occasion for a group of us to get together and ring in the New Year and so many of these we shared.
Paddy was the brain child of the ICVA and it never would have been the organization it is today with out him.
I last saw Paddy before he flew to Australia and its hard to believe it was to be our last time together. He has been my longest dearest friend and I will miss him terrible. Rest in peace Paddy till we meet again.

Our sincere condolences to Teresa and family.
Such wonderful memories of our trip to Dublin for the occasion of brother John's funeral 2018, when Paddy and Clare gave us a unique tour of the Wicklow Mountains. His passion and knowledge for the area was all too obvious, and his dry humour left us reeling with laughter.
God bless you Paddy..

Dear Clare and family,
Our deepest sympathies for the loss of a wonderful human being, Paddy . We feel honoured to have met him and although our interactions were brief only a kind, loving and thoughtful man could have contributed to the beautiful character of his children. May his soul be at peace, and may you continue to honour the man he was by the people you become. All our love the Laus Family

My condolences to Theresa and family on the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. On a personal basis I feel I have lost a lifelong friend and cycling companion.
I first met Pat in early 1953 when I went in search of a cycling club to join. That was the start of a lifelong friendship and rivalry. In 1954 we both joined Dublin Wheelers Cycling Club. Our racing days were curtailed due to studies and business up to 1958.. we both spent 1060’s to 1980’s raising our young families and running our businesses, but in mid 1980 Pat encouraged me to join IVCA, and our racing rivalry was back where it started
With the advent of old age our cycling interest turned to long distance touring and we celebrated our 75th birthday year riding the French Camino and our 80th birthday year, the Portuguese Camino.
More recently our interests turned to riding the greenways and we travelled the Dungarvan/Waterford and Mullingar/Athlone Greenways. The pandemic curtailed our activities during the past two years. The plan was to add many more to our bucket list, but sadly, this was not to be.
I know that if, or when, I manage to tackle a greenway or two, I shall not be alone, as Pat’s spirit will be with me at all times. He will surely find a greenway or two in the place above to make up for those he missed when with us.

To the McInerney Family,
I have such lovely memories of your Dad.
I spent a lot of my youth in your house and he was like a second father- the grumpy version! Although he tried, you could never take his grumpiness seriously. He’d shout or give out or grumble, but with a smile that showed he never really meant it.
On our way home from school Helen and I would call into the shop to say Hi or look for a lift or money. He’d test our maths or physics (which I usually got wrong) and then he’d pretend give out to us and smile that lovely smile and chuckle and hand over some cash. We always knew everything was ok if he was giving out!
He was always in good humour despite pretending to be cross or grumpy and in later life I loved seeing him pretending to be grumpy with his grandchildren. They saw through it just like we did when we were younger and knew he wasn’t grumpy at all but just full of love and fun.
My deepest condolences to the whole and extended McInerney family, Mr Mc was a total gent. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.
— Roisin Callaghan

Sincere sympathy to all of the McInerney family on Paddy's sad and untimely passing. Memories of him giving us handlebar cycle spins in Cabra, where it always seemed to be sunny. I'm forever grateful to him for getting me to the church on time in his white Peugeot car. The simple things often matter most in life. May Paddy rest in peace

Sincere condolences to our dear friend Clare who absolutely adored her beautiful dad, and to her family. So glad to have met him when he came for a big adventure in Australia some years ago. In our thoughts and prayers.

Growing up on Saval Park Crescent, Dalkey, I have many fond memories of the family, but especially Paddy, whom I'm convinced fixed our TV way more times than he wanted to. When Paddy arrived to install our first colour TV it was beyond exciting. Mary Gordon my mother adored the gentle, kind, funny and over pleasing man we knew as Paddy Mac. I am truly saddened to hear of his death. I had the pleasure of bumping into Paddy, and the gang last year after over 25 years.
I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers and on behalf of the Gordon family wish to extend our deepest sympathy.

It is with sadness that we heard of the death of Paddy McInerney. We grew up as neighbours and have fond memories of being entertained by Paddy's quirky sense of humour bundled with all the kids in the back of his van going to school. Checking our catechism he would ask 'Who made the world?' We would dutifully reply 'God made the world with materials supplied by Paddy McInerney!' Many years later he visited me and my husband Ger in Cork and was delighted to hear Ger had a bike and was up for a cycle. Ger was fit and half Paddy's age, but struggled to keep up with him. Halfway up a hill Paddy turned around and asked Ger 'Are you cold? Am I going to too slow for you? Paddy will be sadly missed but the memories live on.
