My heart is heavy at the passing of me old mucker, Paddy. My condolences to you Fiona, and your sons Charlie and Fergus. My memories of my time with Paddy at his home in West Byfleet, the stable door, with his Mum Louie (rusty nail in hand) and Dad, Vincent (the stories), Martin and Michael, our time at St. George’s and the holidays in Crookhaven and Barley Cove. So glad I had time again with him recently at Dough in June of 2017, visiting the old haunts, fishing, laughing, drinking Murphy’s and pretending to be young again. RIP old friend.
— Jamie Toms, New York

— Anna and Chris Whitfield
My Deepest Sympathy to all Paddy’s family. I had the good fortune to know Paddy as a pupil at St George’s College, Weybridge where I taught English. Paddy was a real star in a production of “Oh, What a Lovely War” that I undertook. His performance as the Sergeant Major, drilling his recruits, in what appeared to be Size 13 army boots, was comedy of the highest order, and a high point in a terrific school play. He was a splendid young man. I have never forgotten him. God bless you, Paddy.
— Robin Gregory
Paddy's sad passing will leave a huge gap . A prominent personality from his days as St
George's College , Weybridge , in the very successful 1st XV and in life to all his
friends and family . Greatly missed and sincerest sympathy from all . May he Rest
in Peace . Brian O'Gorman ( Past President Old Georgians' Association and Coach )

My deepest sympathy to all the Mulchrone Family.
I was saddened to hear of Patrick's passing.
I haven't seen Patrick since the long summer holidays in Barleycove/Crookhaven back in the 70's. Both he and his brother Martin were the big fellas and I was but a young whippersnapper. Hearing of his passing brought fond memories back to me of time spent with his Family. The house warming at their Barleycove hideaway, the annual regatta watching his Father Vincent scuttle across the greasy pole to wrest the flag from its distant perch, and of course the many sing songs in Sullivans pub.
Rest in peace Patrick. Enjoy meeting all the old gang from Crookhaven who are now enjoying their heavenly sing songs.
— Don Byrne
My deepest condolences to the entire family. Paddy was one of the kindest, most joyful, giving men I have met in my life and I am forever grateful for the time that I got to spend in his company. I am sorry for your loss and I am thinking about all the family during this time and I will forever think of Paddy.
— Christopher Ferguson
Dear Fiona, my deepest sympathy to you and all the family. It was a great pleasure to have known Paddy and an honour to have played rugby with him and enjoyed his company socially. A true gent who will be sorely missed.

Dear Fiona, Fergus and Charlie

When I arrived at the Mirror's Manchester office as a trainee reporter my desk was directly opposite Paddy's. He looked up, pushed his glasses up and reliably informed there was already a hack called Paul Gallagher in town so I was going to be known as "Junior" - then grinned from ear to ear. Any nervousness I had at working with such an experienced bunch vanished on day one. In almost 20 years in journalism the happiest time I've had was those 7 months working with Paddy and the Manchester family, because that's just what it felt like. He took me under his wing and I learnt so much from him on not only on all sorts of weird and wonderful jobs, but also over a pint or two in the pub or at your home where he often invited me, knowing that I was away from family and friends living on my own. Paddy was just such a lovely man. I was so saddened to hear of his death and will miss him greatly.
— Paul Gallagher
I was gutted to hear about Paddy. I didn’t know him very well but he made me feel very welcome at the club whenever I saw him! He was an absolute gentleman! My deepest sympathies to Fiona, Ferg and Charlie.
He has left us far too soon!x

Fiona, Fergus & Charlie,
our heartfelt condolences to you all on your sad loss.
We were already missing you all as neighbours and have such great memories: Bonfire Night with Paddy coming through the hedge with hands raised in surrender to our fireworks, the fancy dress parties, so many good memories over the many years. We will miss him greatly.
Our thoughts are with you all at this very sad time.

So sorry to hear that Paddy has died. Memories of happy times together with all the Mulchrones. Thinking of all of those close to Paddy, family and friends.
— Helen Lee née Meade
Fiona, the last time I laughed with Paddy was when he helped me to launch my boat as I had made a total pigs dinner of it - the laugh was on me and my incompetence and without him I guess my boat would have been around the Fastnet. I wish I had known Paddy better in my early life in Crook. As has been said many times a man of huge character, fun, wit and piercing intelligence and leaves a huge void in Crook and of course his family, friends and the community.
Sincere condolences to you and the boys.
Andrew
— Andrew Manahan
Dear Fiona, Fergus and Charlie, I had the pleasure of getting to know Paddy whilst working at the Daily Mirror, through a shared love of our Irish heritage and later Rugby we became good friends. He always spoke so proudly and with such love about you, his family - a lasting memory of him. I hope he is now at peace in his beloved West Cork and that you find some comfort in the fact he was so loved and admired by all that had the pleasure to know him. God bless. RIP Paddy x

PADDY POWER

“Language has not the power to speak what love indites
The soul lies buried in the Ink that writes.” John Clare

In words and song he spoke as one,
Who found his peace in the joy of words:
Within warmth and humour was his soul,
Driven in life through the power of fun.

Each smiling care took us all above,
Beyond the petty ways of our tired world:
Deep friendship, in joy, can never a faked,
For when fully lived it is all of our love.

So when writing your life, just think,
About those few who inspire us to be more:
Then take from that thought a soul’s believe
And with me praise life with one last drink.

Thanks for inspiring us all to live a happier life.

'We all die. The goal is not to live forever, but to create something that will.'

Paddy was quite simply, rugbyness personified. His beaming smile, his hearty welcome for one and all and his bonhomie define him as a towering gentleman, not only of his beloved Wilmslow Rugby Club but of God's greatest game.

Paddy's passing reminds us all that life is there to be delighted in and absorbed by, just as he did. I am proud to have numbered Paddy amongst my friends; he joins a mighty band of brothers in the Heaven XV who will play with Barbarian style and observe every nicety rugby has to offer, just as Paddy did always.

Sleep well old friend.
— Mark Shotton

Dear Fiona, Fergus and Charlie
Nadine and I were deeply saddened to hear that Paddy had passed away. As we sat down and reminisced about the many happy times we had with Paddy at Wilmslow Rugby Club the one thing we always talked about, apart from rugby was family, something he was always rightly very proud of.
It was a pleasure to have known such a kind and thoughtful Gentleman, we will miss him greatly.
Sending much love from the George Family to the Mulchrone Family xx
— Chris & Nadine George
I first met Paddy as a cub reporter doing work experience on the Mirror, and even when I moved to the enemy (the Mail) he was always so kind and helpful, he really did take young reporters under his wing. I will remember him for his raucous laugh and naughty quips - even though he was a man mountain he had the heart of a teddy bear. He will be missed by so many, RIP Paddy.
— Liz Hull
Deepest sympathy to Fiona Fergus & Charlie on the passing of Paddy. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
Martin & Loyola

I can only second all the sentiments expressed here particularly the use of the term gentleman, as in my eyes being called that is the highest compliment and never was it more deserved. Paddy went out of his way to welcome Jacqui into the club for which we were both extremely grateful.
He will be missed by all.
Our thoughts are with his family.

Fiona, Fergus and Charlie,
My heartfelt condolences to you all at this very sad time.
As the old Irish proverb goes;
“A good laugh and long sleep are the two best cures for anything.”
Paddy provided to so, so many people the good laugh, the welcoming warm smile, the cheeky glint of mischief, the sage advice, the much needed baritone and the absolute joy and pleasure of being in his company.
He is now enjoying the long sleep.
Good Night God Bless Paddy.
— John Parker

A very sad day indeed! A man who knew the sport inside and out, always a great man to chat with especially when at Wilmslow Rugby. Post match, he would give me great feedback, and provide me with food for thought about where there needed to be slight tweaks in your performance as a referee.
As a man of great rugby knowledge, you would also want to listen to him, reminiscing about the heydays of rugby wherever you encountered Paddy.
Rest easy big man, and I am sure you will be in great company up there!
My sincere condolences to the whole family, may he rest in peace!
— Andy Daniels

The word “Gentleman” is often used these days too often and in the wrong context! In this case there really has never been a more appropriate time to use it! Paddy you really were one in a million, you will be desperately missed by all especially Fiona, Fergus and Charlie! Rest in Peace my friend, you were a true Gent!!!! Love from all the Fiennes family. Xx

Dear Fiona, Fergus and Charlie. My deepest condolences. It was a privilege to know Paddy and work with him for all those years at the Mirror. He was such a big-hearted, kind, caring and generous man, who was loved and admired by all his colleagues.Despite the tears I can’t help but smile when I remember him, with his glasses perched high on his forehead, doubled-up and roaring with laughter at some unprintable joke or comment in the office. His broad, warm grin as he held up an empty glass, gently reminding me it was my round, is a treasured memory from our many office nights out.Cheers Paddy. X.
