I remember, when I was on the altar, in the fifties, this particular Sunday, a family, arrived for mass I had not seen before, and this young man got out of his car, as did his elderly parents, and his sister. I discovered they were new people in the area, and the young man , was Pat OSULLIVAN, who was a agricultural contractor, and was born in Drinagh. He was a regular, doing work on our farm, and was the owner of one the first combine harvester, in West Cork, and it was the center and talk of the farming community. Pat was envolved in the transportation of beet to the mallow beet factory, and worked all hours. The Father of nine children, ment he was a great community person, and with many people, provided many facilities for the community in which he lived. He was a founding member of the local Fine Gael branch, and traveled many miles to the various party meetings and functions, and had been the President over the last number of years. His wife, Mary , died eight years ago, but Pat regrouped, and still active, in his community, until his deteriorating health curtailed his movements, but happy and content, in his own environment. He was a great neighbour, and friend , to many people, a man who could listen, and give advice to those, who sought his time. The Rock is changed for ever , as that imposing person, who would greet you, in his stately chair, is no longer present, but enjoying his eternal rewards in his new found heavenly home.
