I am very sorry to hear this sad news. Paul was an exceptional man and a superb vocal coach and teacher. It is nearly years since he used to come to us in Galway and teach local students. I used accompany them. He used stay with us and I got to know him and talk with him about all things musical into the wee small hours. I was 17 years old then but I have kept and used a lot if what he gave me in those years ever since. He was an exceptional man. On my own and my mother's behalf, I offer you our sincerest condolences. It was a life well spent, may Paul rest in the arms of the angels. ❤
— Norman Duffy

I'm very sorry to hear this news. Paul made such a contribution to the world of music and singing in Dublin. As a student in the RIAM many years ago, I played in the orchestra for Così fan tutte which Paul conducted. It was my first time to be involved in an opera, and it was a wonderful experience. It certainly inspired me on my own musical journey. I know that Paul inspired many other people also. My sympathies to all his family and friends.
— Fergus Sheil

My sincere condolences on Paul’s untimely & way too early passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Paul on a number of occasions, by and large at events that involved my brother, Declan, whom Paul was not just a Mentor & Tutor, but also his friend. Declan sought counsel from Paul on occasions, & received support and advice & took him under his wing to ensure that He achieved the undoubted potential we all knew he had. I feel your pain at this very sad & difficult time, & hope that you all take solace in fact that your husband, father & very dear friend, was a wonderful soul, who touched the hearts of many, & will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace Paul, & no doubt you will have that Big Choir in the Sky buzzing in no time.
— Martin Kelly

To Yvonne, Sarah and Timothy, so sorry for your huge loss. Paul has left a huge legacy behind and will never be forgotten. A great neighbour and a true gentleman. I remember the many New Years Eves at midnight when the neighbours would come out of their houses and greet each other and shake hands. Paul always made his way down Monck Place to shake my parents and my hand. A lovely man..Rest in Peace.

I’m so terribly sorry to hear of Paul’s death, Yvonne. Way back when, he was one of the few at RIAM who truly appreciated and supported me. During my decades in Dublin, we often encountered each other and had opportunities to enjoy each other’s company. Know that Paul’s legacy lives on and will never be forgotten. My prayers to the family, and the extended family of singers Paul mentored.

Incredibly sad to hear of Paul’s passing and condolences to all that new him, not least his family.

I had the pleasure of learning and singing alto to bass under Paul for 6 years in Belvedere when he conducted the College choir there and put on some amazing shows at the school and all around the country, winning many prizes along the way.

His arrangements were always brilliant. He was a musical inspiration to so many people in so many ways, and I will always remember his genius, patience and dedication.

RIP Paul, speed your journey

Dearest Yvonne, Sarah, Timothy and family, I offer all of you my sincerest sympathies at this saddest of times. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Paul was not only a singing teacher but also a mentor and friend. Through his musicianship, humour and respect for each individual singer that entered his doors, he has guided many a life, talent and wavering soul. I shall always cherish the encouragement and assistance Paul offered freely and often. His positive nurturing influence on my career was undoubted and heartfelt. He will be deeply missed by everyone who met him.

Thank you, Paul.

This is such sad news and my heart goes out to you, Yvonne, Sarah and Timothy, in your great loss. Paul was a good man. He was a gifted musician and teacher whose care of his students went far beyond their voice. He was most generous in sharing his expertise and his vast knowledge. He joked about being old: Paul never grew old. He remained energetic and enthusiastic; he was great company and he retained his sense of humour. Later on there will be an opportunity to celebrate Paul's immense contribution to music in this country and beyond. May he rest in peace.
