“Family and friends, friends and family, that’s what’s important Andy”.
These are some of the words from the last text I got from Macker on New Year’s Eve.

Those words say everything about him. He had this amazing trait that, whenever you were with him, he made you feel like you were the most important person to him at that moment in time.
He was the driving force behind so many groups, friends, events, that without him, would never have happened. That takes a very special kind of character.
We owe it to him not to forget all he made happen, whether Mary’s, work, sports or family.

He will be deeply missed.
Safe travels cuz,
//andy

Anne, Laura, Jack, The word gentleman is often over used, not in Macs case. From the first to the last time we met, he was that and more. Never a cross word spoken, always saw the best in people, and I’d try the patience of a saint. I hope the great memories you all created together get you through this. Love, Tony, Bernie, Saoirse & Cian.

I’m so sad to hear of Macker’s passing. He was one of my best mates and I was lucky enough to be one of his. I got to spend time with him last week and we laughed and cried a lot together. We reminisced about trips to Edinburgh for rugby matches where we always roomed together, our early business careers and the big grey slab in Clifden! I’m back in Sydney now and feeling very far away but very happy we said goodbye properly. My son Matty will represent us at the funeral and raise a pint with all your family and great friends on my behalf. Marching on together!

Anne, Laura, Jack, Tony and Dermot.

I had the pleasure of working with and being pranked by Paul (on more than one occasion!) in Murray Consultants. Paul was both a cosummate professional and great fun to work with.

We even played a rugby match together for St. Michael's (no, not St Mary's) in 1985 or '86. In fact it was the first time I met Paul. My alma mater, St. Michael's were looking to avoid injury to their team close to the start of the SCT Cup campaign, when fulfilling a return fixture against a visiting Welsh school side that 'took no prisoners' in Wales earlier in the season.

Paul and I answered the call made to some St Michael's past pupils and other mercenaries. Given licence to 'meet fire with fire', we won against a very surprised Welsh team that couldn't get over the transformation in our approach to the game! Fun times.

Please accept my sincere condolences. My thoughts are with you all.

RIP Paul.
— Conor Dempsey

May I pass on my deepest condolences to Paul's family. I had the privilege of working with Paul at Financial Dynamics (later FTI) as he ran the Dublin office. He was wonderfully welcoming whenever I visited and had a heart of gold. Professionally, he was an absolute pleasure to work with and greeted good and tougher times with equal equanimity. A real gentleman.

Sincere and heartfelt sympathy to Anne, Laura, Jack and your extended family. Paul or Macker as he was known in our house was part of our family since he was in St Mary’s Junior School with Tony and Brian. His wit and easy going manner made him a very popular lad and later man. He is going to be missed terribly and will always be Waffle Champion.
