I’ve learned to hear the sad news of Paul’s passing while I’m living in Aotearoa (land of the long white cloud in New Zealand). He was one of the best mate and also flat mate . He was real gentleman, bubbly person, helpful when I need him, full of craic, full of laugher, and this was my best medicine. “Paul you have gone too soon but won’t be long before I will see you other side. Fly high don’t forget put your belt on”. Condolences and Sympathy to his families, friends, work colleagues especially at custom house, and extended Deaf community! Love you Paul. Rest In Peace brother!
— Milton Reedy

I am in complete shock. I just came in this morning and wondered why Paul was not on the front gate and then I read the news. He always used to give us a wave. My wife used to buy cakes for Paul when he let us park on the Department premises when I started as an IT contractor and I didn't have my pass sorted a good few years back. Always very cheerful and willing to help. All in all a good man. Please accept my condolences.

My deepest condolences to your family. Paul was the best thing by far about working in the Custom House. For seven years he has brightened my day each time we spoke. I was shocked and saddened to learn last week of Paul's untimely passing. To his family and friends please accept my deepest sympathy at this very very sad time.

I was luckily responsible for recruiting Paul to DHLGH, Custom House, Dublin many moons ago as I worked in Personnel Section, now Human Resources. I had many dealings with Paul's mother in this regard and the Department was so fortunate to have recruited someone as good as Paul. He was a pleasure to work with, always obliging, smiling and in good form and it would lift your spirits to have met him on a daily basis. That big smile, the hearty laugh, pleasant manner and his great sense of humour led to lots of good chats and laughs!

When I later joined Facilities Management I would interact with Paul many times each day and I can honestly say that we got on very well. Nothing was ever too much for him and I had a lot of time for him and was fond of him. He would be often seen with his work colleagues Seán and Lar doing jobs around the Custom House and further afield. The sweat would be rolling off Paul but he was never shy when it came to hard work and he did his work with a smile too.

It was my pleasure to have known Paul and he will be greatly missed as a fine work colleague, personal friend and a thoroughly decent human being.

May Paul rest in peace.
— Tony Kenny (formerly DHLGH)
