I am so so sorry for your loss. I was in art school with Paul - he was such an enjoyable person to be around, and made people feel that the time he spent with them was really important to him - not many people are kind enough to make you feel this way. It is so upsetting to lose him, not long after making contact with him again after such a long time. Just to let you know that the memories from his former college friends have all been about what a wonderful guy he was - and he will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with all his family at this difficult time.
— Spencer Glover

I met Paul at Life Drawing sessions in the United Arts Club many years ago. We spent many hours drawing together since and even more time laughing! Paul was one of the sweetest, funniest people I've had the pleasure to befriend. A fantastic draughtsman, passionate artist and warm, open, kind human being. I'll miss him. Deepest sympathies to Trish, Sam and all Paul's family and friends.

Paul was a great friend of mine years ago and I regret losing contact over the years. I got to know him well during our DipADT year (94/95) and have treasured memories of his great sense of humour and his generous spirit. We enjoyed great camaraderie as a group and Paul was at the centre of it all. His wit, wisdom, empathy and his genuine interest in people made him the remarkable man that he was.

Ever the artist, he has left an indelible mark on all who knew and loved him.

Dear Trish and family, I am truly sorry to learn of the loss of your beloved Paul. Thinking of you in the days ahead.
— Patrice Molloy
I had the great fortune to be in the writers group with Paul for a number of years. Paul was a talented writer and was always brimming with really original ideas. Paul was also the ‘Dad’ or the elder statesman of our bunch. Writing is such a solitary process and showing your work to other people is so daunting ... It can be excruciating to receive a challenging critique on work you may have been toiling on for months or even years.

Paul was always honest and yet always respectful of people’s work. He was such a warm, inclusive person. He never failed to make new members welcome. He was always aware of the dynamics in the room and so good at putting people at their ease. And of course, Paul was so droll – he had a great sense of humour.

Anyone who was lucky enough to know Paul will miss him terribly.

I am so very sorry for your loss.
— Ciara Flanagan
My condolences to Linda and Sam and to all Paul's family and those close to him. I've many memories of happier times socialising together and Paul's clever humour. May he rest in peace and my thoughts are with you all and hope you can find the peace and strength to get through these difficult days.
— Donna Cooney
So sorry for your loss Sam, thinking of you at this sad time.

We will remember Paul for his wit, his love of the Beastie Boys, his art and his friendship. He really was a unique individual and we were lucky to know him. Thinking of you all, take care of yourselves.

Thank you for our good talks and laughter at a young age.
Thank you for fixing all my punctures on my bike, I remember they were plenty and you were not always so happy about it, but you fixed them anyway.
Just as a good friend do.

To Trish, Sam, Linda, Breeda, Bob, Mick and Aoibhinn,
Paul seared his presence onto anyone he met and those of us lucky enough to know him will for ever remember his vitality, humor and passion. Paul is easily one of the most extraordinary people I have ever encountered and throughout our adventures in NCAD, Germany and our modest (manky) flat in Stoneybatter I always considered myself so fortunate to be his friend. His is a light which can't be extinguished. My deepest heartfelt sympathies.
— Gavin Kelly

Paul was simply one of nature's loveliest men. He was droll, whip smart and had a brilliant take on life's foibles. He will be sorely missed by all who drew alongside him at the RHA life room for over a decade. He loved the jokes and the camaraderie of the group and everyone that knew him quite simply loved him. So sorry and sad Trish for your loss and sincere sympathies to Sam and to Paul's family at this difficult time.

— Rory Carroll
I was in art school with Paul and he was such fun. Such a sweet and lovely guy. We were always messing about, going on about all the stuff we loved and hated. The dour intensity and englishness of the pop group the Wedding Present were a particular fascination for us and we were always falling around the place laughing. I still quote him on various subjects and whenever we met since I always came away uplifted by his energy, charm and humour. Like everyone I have been speaking with who knew him from back then I am really sad to think he is no longer with us and offer my deepest sympathy to you all in his family. It's a terrible loss.
— Blaise Drummond
Dear Trish - so sorry for your loss. Used to meet Paul in the life drawing in the RHA - always warm, gentle and lovely drawings. Like many - will miss him. Sincerest condolences to Sam and the all of his family.
