I have found memories of calling to the house and selling Africa / development work to 'concerned' parents. They listened politely. They even asked a few questions. But their desire to keep their kids closer than a continent away was very much in evidence.

And yet, they consented.

If you ever wanted evidence of how much he loved you, there it is.

Lorraine, Stephen and Mark,

I am so very sorry to hear of the sad loss of Paul.

Words cannot express how much I owe Paul for his belief in me, his support and the great opportunity he gave me to work at Montgomery Govett.

I have such great memories. He was a man ahead of his time, a great entrepreneur, with such wonderful vision and yet was always happy to help share his knowledge and help others to learn and grow. And who can ever forget those wonderful parties he organised and always with your amazing help Lorraine.

May he rest in peace

Paul has a special place in the history of Ireland's financial markets. It was a great pleasure to have known him and to appreciate the humour and intelligent interest he had not just in markets, but in life.
— Ken O'Brien
Lorraine, Stephen and Mark,
I am so very saddened to hear of Paul's passing - A profoundly decent man who I had the genuine privilege to work with for so long. However, what I will always cherish most dearly is his love of life, a gift for incredible warmth and care and inspirational appreciation of that he and Lorraine and family selflessly shared with me and many like me for so many years. For that, and for those memories, he will always remain in my very warmest thoughts and deepest affection.
Rest well Paul,
Brian

It is with great sadness I write these words as I reflect with fond memories of working with Paul, visiting his home, enjoying Lorraine's cooking and talking politics. When I left Mongomery Govett we went our seperate ways and I never got to tell him, as I told many others, how much I learned from him. My passion and interest in financial markets goes straight back to Paul Montgomery. I am very greatful for that. I spoke about Paul on Wednesday, the day of his passing and I hope where ever he is now he knows the high regard he was held whether spoken or not. My thoughts and prayers are with you. To Eithne and Geraldine: I'm a former neighbour from the Montgomery family's time living in Rathgar. All five of the children, and the parents, are clear in my mind. I'm so sorry about Paul and yet so glad that he had the comfort of his own family around him at this time.
