Having been fortunate to have Pearse's brother Roger (RIP) as my first CO in the 4 Motor Sqn, on moving to the Curragh I was even more lucky to meet the 'young brother'...a fantastic character with significant abilities that he wore lightly and without fuss. So sad to hear of Pearse's death. A great Commanding Officer (Recce Coy. 55 Bn Lebanon 1984). I was late hearing of his death and so arrived late for the funeral Mass, but knowing Pearse he would have forgiven me that. Peacekeeping is a serious business and we did our job in Lebanon but we also had such fun with Pearse. Truly a cavalry officer and a gentleman. He will be remembered.
