He along with his " Blues" teammates were the backdrop to my childhood in the sixties, and seventies.
He perfected the "Tommo" sprint, dive, roll, and instant long throw to invariably to set Johnny on the attack..
Thank you for a lifetime of cherished sporting memories.

So sad to hear of Peter Thomas’ passing. My sympathies to all of his family. As has been said so many times, he was the greatest goalkeeper ever in the LOI. But more than that, for a generation of us growing up in Waterford in the late 60s and 70s, Tommo was the epitome of everything great, colourful and stylish about football. I can remember so many astonishing saves from Kilcohan to Milltown to Flower Lodge - saves that left us speechless and gave us memories to last forever. May he rest in peace.

I want to be associated with all these lovely condolence messages. All for one fine goalkeeper, among the very best goalkeepers we ever saw in LoI football at St Mels Park, Athlone. One medal eluded him for a long time but in 1980 (or '81?) he finally won that long-coveted FAI Cup medal. I remember the occasion. Only last night I recounted to someone, I got asked one time how many English-born goalkeepers played for the Republic? This was pre- the Charlton era. I said Waterford's Peter Thomas played for the Republic. The man told me I was right. I recall hearing that Peter could fairly hit shots on the golf course. RIP Peter, your memories endure in the Irish midlands. My sincere condolences to Peter's wife and family.
— Anon Midlands
Sincere sympathy to Anne and the extended Thomas family on your great loss. Peter was a truly outstanding goalkeeper and I well remember the packed grounds at Flower Lodge and Turners Cross, and Kilcohan, buzzing, as he produced his magic, time after time. When I met him over the years, he liked to recall the many characters he played against on Leeside. May he rest in peace.
— Brendan O'Halloran
