To all the O'Reilly family, my very deepest sympathy on the recent death of Phelim RIP. I was away at the time. I worked with Phelim in RTÉ; initially directly in Personnel and then, when with his gentle encouragement, I moved onwards and upwards to the Director of Personnel and DG's office. After his retirement I always enjoyed our chats at the annual RTÉ Christmas lunch. He was so proud of all of you in his own quiet way and was only too delighted to share updates on how you were all getting on. May his gentle soul rest in peace and may you all get solace at this sad time remembering a lovely man and a life well lived.
— Beverly Hanly

I have just read with sadness in the paper of Phelim's death. May he rest in peace. I was his secretary way back in the late sixties and early seventies. He encouraged me when I was doing my degree at night to continue on to do the HDip and arranged though you, Maire, that I got teaching hours in Holy Faith School, Killester. He was a lovely, sincere, caring man.

Sincerest condolences to Màire, Kate, Eoin and the extended O'Reilly family on the sad passing of my wonderful friend Phelim RIP. He was my boss and my mentor in RTE for many years and he was an absolute gentleman to work with. Our paths crossed again in later years in IWA and it was a delight to discover how highly regarded he was in IWA also. He was caring and unassuming and treated everybody with respect. I will always have the fondest memories of him. Ar dheis Dè go raibh a anam dìlis.

Joan and Oliver Murphy and the members of the Drogheda Branch of the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) would like to extend our deepest and sincere sympathy to Máire and the O’Reilly Family on the sad passing of our dear friend, Phelim.
Joan, Oliver and the Drogheda Branch wish to acknowledge the contribution that Phelim made in the IWA’s formative years and was a driving force in the planning of many IWA annual holidays and fundraising events. He was also instrumental in laying a strong foundation which the national IWA organisation continues to build upon today. Phelim always strived to enrich the lives of those he came in contact with and went about this volunteering in a quiet, caring, unassuming manner.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
