Very shocked to hear of Philip's passing on my return from abroad. He was a lovely man, and colleague. Sincere sympathy to his parents and siblings on their great loss. He will rest easy now - a decent kind man. RIP
— Brian Merriman
To the McCormack family - I was so, so sorry to hear of Philips passing. I got to know him during my time in NUI, Galway, and was fortunate enough to have worked together on different initiatives. He was so generous and kind to me always - full of support, insight, timely advice and of course, great fun. No matter how serious the work was he managed to lighten the load with a laugh and the craic at the end of a long day. He also spoke so highly of his family during our chats. I very much enjoyed, and will miss, the film reviews of movies he had seen with his Mam! I am thinking most especially of you all. Suaimhneas síoraí dó

My most sincere condolences to the McCormack family on the tragic and untimely loss of Phil. I worked with him directly and indirectly over the past 15 years or more and always enjoyed being in his company, both in work or occasionally over a few pints. Phil was such a kind and generous man and great fun to be around. I used to enjoy slagging him about being the poshest person in Kilbarrack, which he always took in the right spirit. He was great at his job, he really threw himself into his research and particularly enjoyed the personal interactions and insights it brought. I will miss him a lot, he was a great person.
— Ben Ryan
Deepest condolences to all the McCormack family.

I was a childhood friend of Philips during our Primary School days together in St. Benedicts School. I grew up literally on the other side of the Kilbarrack road to Philips house, and have the fondest memories of hanging out together after school and at weekends. As a young lad, he was a lovely, kind and gentle soul, and very naturally intelligent.
I never knew Phil as an adult, but having read all these lovely messages and tributes, it is obvious that Phil was that same kind, caring, and gentle person his whole life.

Rest in Peace Phil. ❤️
