I first met him in his office in 1979, and kept in touch over the years and he put me in touch with some charities he thought worthy of support. He happened to ring me to say he was retiring in July 1988...the day my youngest daughter was born (Philippa).
I really enjoyed his books and my wife and I were pleased to have visited him in February 2019, just a few weeks before pandemic. Sincere condolences to the family on the passing of a fine man indeed.

Mr Jacob, my first employer, was a great influence as a role model for me - a young Chistian and also one of his employees in the 1960s. I've remembered him often and so glad we touched base again in 2010 and asked me to call him Philip. I thoroughly enjoyed his two books written and published by himself. Such a beautiful person and and great fun to be with. Rest in peace Philip - my friend and mentor. I will always remember you.. My sincerest condolences to all the family.

Philip thought me to row, to feather my oars, to break the oar over my knee and stow the blade for'ard so as not to wet ones female companion.

A gentleman oarsman and a gentleman in every sense.
