Ann, Stephen, Heather and Ian, I am very late with this post. Apologies.

So sorry for you all. We were very lucky to have spent so much time holidaying with you
all. Great memories of our extended family.

And, we had lovely times holidaying in your house without you.

Our 'Bon Air'bnb summers were special. Such a great home filled with all the things we didn't have. Big American couches, rollerskates, Ryan, the first remote control, skateboards, Warlock murals, the computer, the tyre over the rock, the abondoned JCB, the green Porsche, Salthill and so much more. We loved it. Thank you.

Philip was ahead of his time in many ways. He had a home office, a well equipped workshop garage, regimental raspberries, and airlocked wine bubbling away. He was a calm patient man with so many large accomplishments. He is a great example of fatherhood and living a fulfilled life.

Very grateful to have known him. Take care. Lots of love, Kieran
— Kieran Curtin

Ann, Steven, Heather & Ian, my deepest sympathies on the passing of your beloved Philip. He was a quiet gem, a brilliant mind and a constant calm presence. I grew up knowing Philip and your family as neighbours in Uggool. He inspired me to follow my early dream of studying physics at UCG. He had huge empathy for students’ challenges and never faltered in his encouragement through all the ups and downs. As Chair of the Physics Department in the 80’s, he was still ever accessible, and fostered gender-equity among students long before it was a common theme. He found joy in living even when his illness was progressing, and was still curious about the progress of his prior students during my last visit to him this spring. I remain ever grateful to Philip for his friendship and inspiring encouragement as a professor. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

I am very sorry indeed to hear of Philip's death. Unfortunately I heard about it only after his funeral, and so I wasn't able to attend. I knew Philip for nearly 50 years as a great physicist in the fields of radiation detection, radiological protection and the environment: my own areas of interest in Trinity College Dublin. He was also a good friend to me throughout my career. My wife Jean and I send our sincere condolences to Ann and the whole family, including Philip's brother and sisters.
