UCC are grieving the loss of one of their greatest Professors. A scholar of huge intellect, a man of enormous integrity, a very humane person who assisted many colleagues in times of personal difficulty, a wonderful teacher, colleague and friend. Des will be sincerely missed by all who had the great privilege of working with him, by students taught (and challenged) by him, and all who enjoyed and appreciated his rye sense of humour. His academic achievements and contributions were recognised and honoured by the RIA, as well as Oxford University Press. He will be missed by all who had the great privilege of knowing him. Our sincere condolences go out to his family, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace. Rosarii & family, Cork.
