As a lifelong rugby fan, I was delighted to get to know Ray in recent years when he engaged me for some consultancy work. They say you should never meet your heroes but he was surely the exception to prove the rule! A gentleman to his fingertips, it was a pleasure to deal with him, and I greatly enjoyed the UCD Rugby Club dinners to which he kindly invited me. Sincere sympathies to all the family on your sad loss. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Deepest condolences to you all on your sad loss. I first became acquainted with Ray in 1957 as young first year students in The College of Science, Merrion Street. From the beginning it was apparent that this young man was very special both as a person and academically. Our relationship flourished during our college years and our paths drifted in the late 1960’s. We met again in the early 1970’s.At this stage Ray had become part of a very special IDA team which changed Irish Industry forever. His contacts were a great help to me both at home and abroad which led our company (Kent plc) to become a major player on the world stage. Ray did a lot of unseen work, unknown to many people and has left a wonderful legacy behind him both in commerce and sport. I am most grateful that such a great human being crossed my path. May he rest with peace.

Comhbhrón ó chroí to all the Mc Loughlin family. Fathach fir. Duine ard éirim. Always available. My fondest memory was the day the day Leo Galvin, another Garbally rugby star challenged Ray to a shotput competition. Ray picked the 16 pound shot and unknown to Ray Leo picked up the 7 pound shot. Leo threw the farthest but ever inquisitive Ray smelt the rat giving everyone present a good laugh. Solas na bhflaitheas ar d'anam uasal Gaelach Ray agus go raibh leaba ar dheis lámh Dé agat.
— Pádraig & all the Carney family Ballinasloe
