From what my son told me and from what I have read here today and over the last week, it is clear to see that Red Óg was the best of the best in many ways. To his parents, you both raised an exceptional young man and I’ve no doubt that Red’s brothers are just as brilliant, you should both be so proud.
Red Óg spent many years making this world a better place for those he knew & loved and now it is time to go on and live in that world with him as your guiding light.
For the rest of my son’s years in DCU and for all the year group, they will forever remember Red Óg in all they do and say. They will always be a man down but Red will never be far from their hearts or minds.
Sending love & strength to you all. May Red Óg rest in peace.

Red Óg has been a household name in our home for many years because of his sporting talent and it is clear from reading these condolences that he was just as wonderful off the pitch as he was on. My deepest sympathies to you Geraldine and Redmond, Oisin, Daithi, Rachel and all the Murphy and Lavin family on the heartbreaking loss of your beautiful, talented Red Og. May he rest in peace.
— Margaret McDonnell Norton, Swinford and Dublin
Red Óg, on and off the pitch you were admired. The style of football, the handsome good looks, the personality, the charisma and the distinctive socks and numerous hair styles. On or off the football pitch you had respect for everyone. I am deeply saddened that us as your team mates and friends allowed you to go to that dark place. I am saddened we did not know your final thoughts. Red Óg if anything can be taken from your final hours, a message of "this cannot happen again" needs to be portrayed to the young men on this island of Ireland. Red Óg.. you have passed from this world and the void you have left behind is unfathomable. You will be forever loved. Rest in Peace young man. To your Dad Red,Mum Geraldine, brothers, girlfriend, friends and extended family, sincere and heartfelt condolences. God Bless you all

It was a pleasure to have spent time with Red Óg, as a teacher in our class. To his First Class pupils he was Mr Murphy. We will never forget his hard working, caring and gentle nature and the laughs we shared.
We will always have fond memories of all the wonderful fun activities Mr Murphy did with us.
Thank you for planting cress seeds with us, teaching us about Australia, the Dot Art, The Princess and The Pea lessons and the lovely butterfly Mother’s Day activity using adjectives.
You shared your sporting talent and expertise in your well organised P.E. Lessons and helped all the children develop their throwing, catching and kicking skills. The children absolutely loved the football matches. We also loved the alien music lesson, the drama lesson and your Irish lessons all about ‘An Teilifís’. Is aoibhinn linn an ‘Cluiche Kim’ agus ‘Deir Ó Gradaigh.’
Mr Murphy fitted in so much in such a short space of time and made such an impression on all of us. We will always remember you and cherish all the memories.
Keeping Red Óg’s family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.
May Red Óg Rest in Peace.
Fly High Mr Murphy.

Condolences to Red Óg’s family, girlfriend Rachel, Curry GAA, Sligo GAA, DCU class mates and team mates and everyone else who knew Red. Watching him on the football field was always amazing. Hoping that when you need it, that every message of condolences and memories of Red Óg will bring you light back into your life.
Red may be gone, but I can assure you he will never be forgotten.
