Sincerest sympathies to Fr. Murray's family and to the Jesuit community on his passing.

He was a superb Principal at CCC and positively influenced so many of us during our time there.

Only recently there was a discussion about how he took great interest in and supported so many extra curricular activities, which meant that even us mere swimmers occasionally heard our names announced over the tanoy or at assembly! Such small things made big differences to us young students.

Rest in Peace Dermot.

Crescent College, later Crescent College Comprehensive, owes much to the extraordinary contribution of the Jesuit community. Dermot exemplified the unique role that has been played by the Jesuits in Irish education and, as a headmaster and educator, he was a man far ahead of his time. His most significant efforts on behalf of his pupils went largely unseen but were deeply impactful. His fond relationship with my late father, John O’Brien, went beyond the workplace at Crescent and made him feel like part of our family. I know many others would say that too. He was witty, genial, exceptionally good company, and tremendously kind. Though all who knew him will be saddened by Dermot’s passing, they will take comfort from the mark he made as teacher, Jesuit, friend and, of course, rugby aficionado. RIP
