When we walk without the cross, when we build without the cross and when we proclaim Christ without the cross, we are not disciples of the Lord. We are worldly. We may be bishops, priests, cardinals, popes, all of this, but we are not disciples of the Lord.

Pope Francis

Fr Joe, you were certanily a Deciple of the Lord.
— Churchgoer
My sincere condolonces to Fr Dorans Family. I have been a regular visitor to the parish of Barndarrig over many years and have never seen a Parish come to life as did Barndarrig during his time there. I had reason to call to the church one evening and found him doing the COVID cleaning, but made time for a chat, he was so immersed in all aspects of the parish. I was so shocked to hear of his sudden passing and I cannot quiet put my finger on it but on my regular visit to Saint Mary's Church it feels very much like the building itself is in Mourning.

Fr Joseph was a truly a Godly man. I’m sure his soul is in heaven right now, with eternal rest
— A Visiting Parisioner
I would like to express my sincere sympathy to Fr. Joe's family, friends, parishioners on his untimely passing away. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Matthew 25:23 “well done, good and faithful servant.”

I wish to offer my deepest sympathy to the Doran family, on the death of their much loved and admired son, Fr. Joseph.
He brought people back to the Church and to the sacraments, as witnessed by people offering condolences.
He brought the parish finances from the red into the black. How do we know this? He published the parish accounts.
At each parish Mass, he prayed that his replacement as priest would come from the parish, and it would be a great testament to him, that this would be the case.
But for this to happen, the parishioners must pray.
Fr. Joseph, may you Rest In Peace.
— A Thankful Parishioner

We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy to Fr Josephs parents, siblings and extended family and friends on their devastating loss, it was a big shock to us all. Fr Joseph came to our parish when times were very hard what with covid, lock down and restrictions and alot of changes to be made and rules and regulations to be followed he had his work cut out for him. Alot of sacraments had to be put on hold for along time. Fr Joseph was very gentle and kind and had a great personality and had a lovely way with words, his masses and ceremonies were always from the heart and were very interesting and he sometimes associated them with his childhood growing up and his loving family they were everything to him.
Fr Joseph came to my mother in law Rose for to give her the sacrament of the sick it was like we had known him for years his presence and humour made us feel at ease and the conversation just flowed, she always looked forward to his visits. When Rose passed away Fr Joseph did everything to make her funeral very special from the readings to the hymns and made sure all covid guidelines were being followed. We greatly appreciated his efforts. He had alot of work to do for one person, which in normal times there would be two. Fr Joseph you will be greatly missed thank you for being the person that you were and bringing us hope. Our loss will be Heavens gain.
RIP Fr Joseph.

Fr. Joseph appointed me the Animator for our parish during the Synodal Pathway. To echo many of the condolences here the feedback we got from the parishioners was extraordinary, and it was all down to Fr. Joseph.
Parishioners told us that the parish had come alive under his watch. He brought many people joy and even more back to the Church. He made sure that everyone was "heard, recognised, and appreciated."
He made all parishioners feel welcome and a part of the parish. People came to Mass, not out of obligation, but because the Holy Spirit was alive and strong in Fr. Joseph. His mantra "nothing is impossible to God" gave hope to the hopeless during lockdown, and he helped many through very difficult times.
During Covid-19, he went above and beyond in helping his parishioners, accommodating Masses, keeping social distancing in place to make sure everything was properly organized and everyone was safe.
He made sure that the churches were beautifully decorated for feasts and bringing back purple cloth for Lent, which the church hadn't seen in decades. He introduced a centre shrine, and held a "beautiful celebration of the Feast of Saint Therese which captured the imagination of many."
One parishioner was astonished at how one priest could do so much. Yet, he did. Another one was delighted they had the support of such a priest. He was a man of God and a true vocation to the priesthood. He acted out his vocation everyday, and is an inspiration to all who knew him.

It is with great sadness I heard of fr Joe's passing today. My sincere condolences to Joe's family parishioners in Ranelagh and wicklow and very large circle of friends. As caretaker of Scoil bhride ranelagh I got to know fr Joe well when getting the church ready for the sacrements each year and all that that entails. He was always very supportive of me and would remark how well we done things. He would always have a joke and made it a very pleasant experence for me. He would say you know what your doing don't ask me with a smile. He would always want the children's art work left at the back of the church and for as long as possible and would say it brightens up the place and its great for the parishioners to see
He will be a great loss to the church passing at such a young age. The church would be in a much better place if it had more priests like fr Joe.
May you rest in peace joe
