Had the pleasure of playing with him in Navan O'Mahony's 4 in a row in the late 80's and 90. Richie was a giant of a man both on and off the field, a lovely person and good company. Shocked and saddened to learn of Richies passing. I have good memories of him from my time with Lucan Sarsfields in the 90's. He was a great guy, who made everyone feel welcome at the club. My sympathies to his family and all who knew him at Lucan.

I had this great man as my Class Teacher in the Tech in Clondalkin around 1981 .Very few teachers made the impression he did.He was so Cool and Down to earth .loved talking Gaa to him.He also had a thing he did with a pen flicking it around his fingers .None of us could copy him.Rip Sir

Just discovered Richie has passed.What a gentleman.
Probably the most genuine and honest man I ever met.
So sorry for all of his family that he has passed.Met him at race meetings in Galway and Punchestown over the years and even though I hadn't seen him in years he would spend nearly half an hour talking with you. At least until the next race started.

I am very sorry to hear Richie is gone .We grew up as neighbouring families. And Richie was always an especially kind man with a lovely spirit. Modest despite been an exceptional footballer and sportsman. It was always a treat to bump into him. Deepest sympathies to Dominica, Niall ,David and the extended Crean Family.

I was lucky enough to work with Richie in the maths department of HCS. He was a true gentleman who listened when you spoke to him. The support I received from him was second to none. A fantastic teacher and colleague.

I am so sad to hear of Ritchies passing. I attended St.Marks commumity school in tallaght 1981-86 .Mr.Crean was such a young teacher a real breath of fresh air to us..He was a fantastic maths teacher and I have never forgotten him..my deepest condolences to his family

One word Sir... Onomatopoeia...... you were and always will be the BEST.... thank you for being my Maths teacher from 1994-1999 in Hartstown but also the skill you brought to the GAA side of our school. So deeply saddened and shocked to hear about the untimely passing of Ritchie. While I only met Ritchie on a few occasions his warmth as a human being left a deep impression. The legacy he left as a mentor and teacher has been beautifully reflecred on this forum and is extremely moving. As a student in Maynooth, I remember Richie who always sat in the same corner of the library as myself and he was such a friendly, kind gentleman, he loved to talk about football and horses.
