So sad to hear of 'The Canon's' death . He was a great supporter of the Mount Merrion Folk Group that we started and ran for 12 years. He only ever asked us to change one word in a Rolling Stones song we wanted to use: ' We dont dispair' he said, so we used a different line.
Always gracious and prayerful, he was a favourite of my mother and she would do anything for him.
His wisdom and counsel will be missed Rest in Peace.

It was with great sadness, but with deep gratitude for the goodness of his life, that I learned of the passing of Mgr Ardle MacMahon. I ministered with him in Mount Merrion for ten years, 1988 -1998. He was a man of total commitment to his vocation as a priest, to the Church that he loved so well and above all to his dear parishioners.
I have very many memories of Ardle. I will share one with you. One Sunday evening after the evening Mass he and I were walking down the carpark and he said to me " Martin, I was thinking about our Parish this evening and I was wondering if there was any area of life that you can think of that we are not catering for." Very much the words of a true and concerned pastor.
To all the extended MacMahon family, to his friends and above all to the parishioners of Mount Merrion, I offer my sincere sympathy and an assurance of prayerful remembrance. May your gracious soul, Ardle, rest in the Peace of the Lord you so faithfully served over a very long life.
— Fr Martin Cosgrove, Rathfarnham
Our Condolences to the extended family of the Monsignor and also his brother Peter.
True gentlemen in every sense. They will be greatly missed.

Comhbhrón ó chroí to the wider MacMahon family on Mgnr Ardle's passing.

Monsignor MacMahon was a magnificent servant to the Dublin Diocese and to our parish in Mount Merrion. His 25 years as Parish Priest left, and continues to leave, a lasting legacy to the ever-changing fabric of the practice of the faith within our Parish unit.

His personal stability and shepharding were of great support to so many, and his 8 full sequences of visits to the 2000 or so family units in the Parish at that time, primarily on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, was also remarkable!

Even in recent years, he had been very safe and well in his flatlet in the Queen of Peace, Rathgar and then later in Sybil Hill, Raheny, and then in Highfield. Great thanks are due to all those who assisted him in all three locations.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis - ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann

Liam
