Our deepest sympathy to Robert's family on his untimely death. We got to know him while walking in Castletown. We looked forward to our chats with him and always had a story for us. He was a kind and generous man and will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace Robert.
— Pat & Christine Twomey
Robert had been our postman back in 1972 and he recalled being invited in for a cup of tea! Our paths were to cross again forty-eight years later on the main street of Celbridge and after some time he expressed an interest in a restoration project in an old burial ground saying: "I'll give you one day of work". He accompanied me down there on Saturday the 16th of April this year and spent the day digging out stumps using his block and tackle -- hard physical graft...

Up until the end of October we continued the work almost every Saturday with the occasional help of another friend and many visits to a local recycling yard, where he was honoured with a minute of silence. It was a world of cars, boats, cement mixers, and even an impromptu music session with Robert singing "Nancy Spain" and the lads joining in with gusto for "Take Me Home, Country Roads".

Robert dug up an extraordinary number of yew, elder, hawthorn, willow, and ash stumps -- a monumental task which no one else would have even contemplated... he also planned on rebuilding the broken wall and he beautiful stonework can be admired on a bungalow facade behind his house. He loved the Abbey Art Group exhibition and enjoyed some interesting excursions and spoke frequently of his children. He is remembered for his kindness, generosity, and tremendous zest for life and is sorely missed. Sincere Condolences to all the Sharpe family; may Robert Rest in Peace.

Deepest sympathy to the family of Bobby. The Sharpe family is synonymous with the Main Street in Celbridge and Bobby carried on that tradition with his friendly smiling nature. He always had time to chat and usually provided a few gems of local information and the odd old photograph of local life.

We were very saddened and shocked to hear of the untimely death of Bobby and we wish to offer our condolences to all his family. During the mid 1970's Bobby and myself participated in a gruelling weekend paddle as a part of a fundraiser for Vanessa Canoe Club. But never the pessimist, he was always up for the craic and chat. May Bobby Rest In Peace.

There's a deep sense of loss with Bobby's sudden death. We'll miss his great smile and great chats. We admired his energy, his curiosities and his generosity, particularly the gift of his father's old printing type to the Graphic Studio, Dublin. May he set fair on his final big voyage. The light of heaven to him, and sincere condolences to all the family.

We are so saddened at the sudden and untimely passing of Bobby. He was a dear and close friend going back to the "old" Vanessa Canoe Club back in the 70s. Some of us will remember the Famous Black Ball in 1978 and Bobby has a lot to answer for that night. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.
We loved talking to him about the history of Celbridge which he loved.
He will be sadly missed on the Main Street.
Keep on sailing Bobby.
We will miss you. R.I.P.

So sad to hear the news about Bobby. Himself and Dad were great friends for years which all started with canoeing in the 70s. Bobby had a great smile, and was always interested in your news. He was particularly great craic at our wedding a few years ago doing the Russian squat dance. He definitely won the dance off! Rest in peace Bobby, you will certainly be missed around Celbridge Main Street. Condolences to Jenny, Jacintha and Robert.

Condolences to the family on Bobby's sudden passing. A terrible shock to us all - he was too young to go and so full of life. He was a mine of information on any subject. We knew him since the 1970's and he was often away with us for weekends ("The Ranter's Club"!). He visited us regularly for a coffee and chat (as recently as a few weeks ago). We will miss him terribly. Keith Slevin and Margaret McTiernan, Ballymore Eustace.

Bob was Bobby to us. Always known to me, and my family, since his arrival into the world. Always fond of my sisters of his vintage, and all those in the Collegiate School. Full of energy, and always a smile for, and a chat with, all he met. Celbridge will not be the same without his smile and daily presence, on the main street, or in his bay window. A person who always stood up for himself, for what he believed to be right, and for others, like me, when we encountered challenges, often at great cost to himself. His children were regularly spoken of. He was vibrant, forever planning for the future and lived every second of life, to the full, to the end. All those of us who'd got to know him much better in Covid times, will miss his company, but his light will never go out.
— Jill Barrett
