I was very shocked and saddened to hear of Robbie's sudden and untimely passing. Robbie gave so generously of his time and talents to all the clubs and activities he was involved with and his contribution was immense. His common sense and easy manner combined with his integrity were invaluable. His loss to you, his family, is immeasurable and his loss will also be deeply felt by all of us who benefitted from his involvement with and his commitment to so much in his community, but he will always be remembered with affection. Deepest sympathy to Joanne, Killian, Sarah and the extended Whelan family on the death of such a superman. Robbie spent 8 years with us on the Parents Council of St Peter and Paul’s, and was there for every meeting, every Church Gate collection and every Sports day. He was there with the Swimming Club for all of the galas and the meetings and in those early days, did much more than his fair share of Parent on Duty. He organized the Fun Days out, and his presence on those days made them all the more fun for everyone. He gave the same commitment and energy to the Athletics club. What I will remember him most for was the fact he was constantly willing to offer lifts and more importantly encouragement to our kids to be the best they could be. I will be forever grateful for the fact, he took the time to highlight to me, some of the positives about my own kids. Robbie was an absolute gentleman and one of the kindest souls I ever had the pleasure of meeting. May he rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Joanne, Killian, Sarah and family at this very sad time. It was a privilege to work with Robbie on the committee for Clonmel Athletic Club. Through the heavy workload we always had a laugh, his always gave solid & sound advice. His love of the sport & the club was remarkable, no job was too big or too small for him to take on. Amongst so many of his voluntary tasks in the club Robbie was great to steward at all the local races. It always gave me a great boost when I ran past Robbie as he watched over all the athletes ensuring our safety, his sincere words of encouragement went a long way, he will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.
