Deepest sympathy to the Mason family on Ron's passing. Like many Old Conna members, I had the pleasure of playing in Ron's company on a number of occasions and always marvelled at the effortless finesse with which which he worked the golf ball from tee to green. The round in his company always seemed to pass quickly as he was an excellent conversationalist and had an eagle eye for the stray ball, rarely his, which landed in the rough. Ron will be greatly missed not only by his family and brother Richie but also by the many Old Conna members who treasured his company.
— Michael Madigan
Ron was one of the club’s finest golfers. Ron’s chipping was first class. I was lucky to chat with him in the practice area last year, with another member. “Ron what’s your best chipping tip”, we asked. “Weight on left foot, ball back in stance if you want a bit of run, or forward if you want the ball to fly a bit.”, he said. He then took a few chips to show us how. “Very impressive”, we said. He smiled and gave us more tips. But yet to come was the nugget. ... He then grinned & said, “It’s all about imagination”. We’ll miss Ron on & around Old Conna’s golf course.
— Ruairi O Nuallain
