It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Mgr Michael Olden. I extend my sincere sympathy to all his family and many friends and above all to the clergy and people of the Deise country. I have many personal memories of him from my years in Maynooth. Above all I remember his great humanity and his common decency. I greatly enjoyed his history lectures, you could almost hear the sound of some of the great church people about whom he spoke, such as Mannix and Cullen, striding up the lecture hall, such was the clarity and vivid nature of his presentation.
May he enjoy the reward of his labours.
— Fr Martin Cosgrove Rathfarnham

Sincere sympathy to all of Msgr Michael's extended family and friends on his recent death. Be assured of a remembrance in the Masses and prayers of the Irish peacekeepers here in Syria during this difficult time.
I spent my first four years of priesthood working in Clonmel with Michael and I learned a great amount during those years. Michael, at a funeral, would often say that while we pray for the dead to rest in peace, his hope was they they would be active in peace. May Michael now be active in the peace of the heavenly kingdom as he prays for us all. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam dílis.
— Fr Paul F Murphy, Chaplain to the Irish Forces in Syria

Sincere Sympathy to the family of Right Revd Monsignor Michael Olden, who was a great friend of the late Nellie Cliffe Cappoquin, and gave a wonderful address at her memorial service in St Anne's Church, Cappoquin in 1997. On a few occasions Mgr Michael joined me for ecumenical weddings, also travelled to give clerical talks in Fiddown rectory, which were all very special and I will always remember and treasure the warmth and friendliness of his visits. Deepest sympathy to Monsignor Oldens family and friends. He was truly a wonderful priest and an inspiration to everyone he was involved with. A brilliant man he had the common touch which endeared him to so many. He was a man who was ahead of his time in many ways and he will always be remembered by the Kilsheelan Kilcash G.A.A Club for making the parish church available for the launch of the club's history, not alone that but he launched the book himself with and address that was inspirational and covered the history of the club, the parish, and the GAA in general from its foundation. May he rest in peace.

With heartfelt sympathy on the death of dearest Mon .Michael Olden to all his dear relatives, friends and parishioners whom no doubt will feel a bright light has only been dimmed, a light that will now burn brightly in the heavenly realms. He was so wise, deeply kind and always thoughtful. As Parish Priest of Clonmel St Peter and Paul's Church and as Chaplain to Scoil Mhuire na NAingeal we could always depend on him to enrich so many special occasions with staff and pupils- bringing great joy and humour when appropriate but most of all tremendous wisdom and consolation in times of sorrow and difficulties fior families. After reading the notice on Facebook it feels like the Parish of St Peter and Paul's Clonmel has lost a great friend.

I served under Monsignor Olden as an alter server during his time in Clonmel and I have found memories of the history he knew and what he told of the travels and time spent in Rome among others.

We have lost a pillar in our Dioceses

Rest in Peace Monsignor Olden. You will be missed.
