To the Cullen Family,
I was very saddened to hear of Ruth’s recent death. I had known Ruth since the early days of the IPPA in Cork. Ruth was part of that great pioneering group of women who who laid the foundations for the early childhood profession in Cork.
She was a pleasure to know- a kind , caring, bright person who brought humour as well as that rare attribute, common sense, to every occasion.
Ruth enhanced the lives of those who were privileged to know her, not least the lives of the many children who spent time in her care.

I am feeling so sad about this loss. Ruth was a very kind person and the leader of Turnerscross community. Being migrant and isolated in the society, Ruth was the first person to welcomed me with wide open arms. Made the part of this Turnerscross community. Let me feel the my presence in society. She was like an Angel. She was wonderful and so kind. Had sympathetic eyes, face full of smile and heart full of love.
I was loving her.
Despite I had no blood relation with her. But feel a kind of special appeal with her soul. She is my mentor, spiritually, as mother and as professional.

She will always live in my heart with her smiling face and wide open arms.

May she rest in peace.

Deepest sympathies to Anton, Karl, Michael, Christian, Naomi.and all the extended Cullen family on the sad passing of your beloved Ruth. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time. Ruth epitomised the meaning of community spirit. She was always at the heart of her community in Turners Cross. Her work and involvement over the years in Turners Cross Community Centre, the Turners Cross/South Parish Summer Schemes and of course the early childhood sector is testament to the person that she was - kind, generous of spirit and generous with her time. We enjoyed many a discussion on both local and national politics when we would meet. She will be missed by many, but by her family most of all, especially her children and adored grandchildren. May Ruth Rest in Peace.
— Micheál & Mary Martin & family
I have waited until now to write what is in my heart about Ruth…because, like you, I am overwhelmed with shock and sorrow at her passing.

Ruth was like no-one I’ve ever known - full of joy and caring for others and undeterred by difficulties. That is how she always appeared to me. As one who shared three grandchildren with her - Kilian, Lochlann, and Molly - and a son - Michael, husband of my dear Carol, I am honored to have experienced her strength and love for her family.

I charge us all to keep Ruth’s all encompassing love and strength going forward and all around. Wherever love is needed and wanted, do what Ruth would do, in her name and memory.

You - her children and grandchildren - are the lucky ones, the blessed, to have called Ruth Mam and Granny. We - her friends and family - are also blessed to have known her beauty.

Jeanne
