Thinking of all my relatives in Ireland today and reminiscing of my fond memories in Leixlip Gate with my grandfather, Seamus. My strongest memories include Seamus' meticulous mowing and tending to his lawn, trekking to Carton House for ham sandwiches, shooting at metal cans off of tree stumps, and long afternoons in the sun room reading newspapers and chatting.

A man with an impressive--if not encyclopedic--knowledge of local history and an admirable mainstay of his community, there were few times we would exit the house without someone recognizing and flagging him down on the street or at a pub. Deeply regret being unable to make it for the services today, and look forward to connecting again with my extended family soon.

When Derek joined him on the field, they became the first father and son combination to play on the same team in the club.I will miss his incisive take on rugby and GAA games.
